Misleading title.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jonathan Green again?

no.

Any additional comments?

The title is misleading. The book is vaguely describing his process of making money by writing books about popular subjects with little prior understanding and he is proud of it.
This book should have been called. How I quit my 9 to 5 job by spewing out books and selling them to gullible people like you.

The book starts fine, he makes some "ok" remarks about the society and the education system. He encourages the reader/listener to make lists and and targets but these lists are not utilized. He either forgot about it or he didn't really had a plan at the start.

There is a part in the middle which he talks about how great his networking skills are , why you should pay him or buy his products and so on. It is really hard to listen. It is like listening to an hour of advertising. It goes on forever.

He also talks about buttering up rich people to get sweet deals , but it is not explained which kinds of deals he is referring to.. His advice on networking is talk to people, offer value, buy drinks for people and talk to their wives.... there are no gems here , these are the things what any sane people would do..except talking to the wives part.

Later he starts by saying that everyone has a skill and he will come back to that. His advice later on is to write a book about it ,sell your services online or shoot a video. If you are not a simpleton you already know this stuff, everyone has heard about the YouTube millionaires , or seen an add or two which takes to online training courses. There is noting new here.

Towards the end he talks about cutting costs, how he ghost writes to earn extra cache. It seemed funny because an hour ago he was telling how he was making 6 figures or he gets sweet deals because he has tons of rich friends.
He talks about how he achieved greatness, how happy he is , how wonderful his life is..ect.. He boasts about his life so much , it makes it seem like he has a terrible sad life, i hope it is not the case.

I believe the software which he uses to divide the chapters of the book worked against him. There is no real composition or a natural flow between chapters. The way which he mentioned how websites changed by talking about the early operating systems blew my mind. I don't think he really researched any of the material before writing this book. Some stuff can not be leaned by reading a couple of articles or by taking courses.

This explains why there is no system, no real advice about anything other than writing books.

Last but not least, at the end he tells you that he will send you a coupon if you mail him a screen shot of your 5 star review. I think it is telling some thing about the author, I leave it up to you to decide .

Smart..... self promoting

I'm sure the author is a good guy and he clearly is successful. He offers a couple useful suggestions but book seems to talk alot about himself, his kids swimming lessons, that he lives on a tropical island, etc. the rest of the book is about him promoting himself his own website, and his services.

No actionable steps

This is more of a motivational book than any sort of guide or how-to book, which it advertises itself as. This made it pretty disappointing. It makes claims that sound like it's the next 4 hour workweek with a bunch of ideas that you can take action on. This book, however, is much different. "I left my job and now I write amazon books and blog posts from home. You can too!" summarizes the whole book. It feels like one long pitch for you to read his blog. Nothing of value.

Work-life for a whole new world

Jonathan Green speaks cutting edge about the state of the work field in 2017. To count on a JOB and corporate America to take care of us is no longer a "secure" way to plan your life. I read this in perfect timing for me, I was already moving to creating my own job. What he added to that was to diversify as well. This was a fabulous bonus because I was giving myself a lot of pressure to succeed at the current project. Now I can relax and do it well, but continue to think of the next thing rather than bet everything on one idea.
Thank you Jonathan! I will be combing through your site as well, as you've invited us to.

He cares!

There is no doubt in my mind that the author is 101% genuine in his earnest desire to help every reader to serve no master. Sincere in every way! If you genuinely want to make a living on line, there HAS to be at least one method in this book that will fuel your success if you are willing to work for it.

Excellent read for 1st business book or your 101st

Jonathan Green has a very compelling argument for building your own online business. He is very relatable - as I read Serve No Master, his writing echoed and reinforced many things I have thought for a long time such as a college degree by itself doesn't guarantee success. Yet, we grow up being programmed that graduating college will guarantee a career and happiness. If you thought a college degree meant success in life and are not happy with the real results - READ THIS BOOK! If you already knew that drive and passion are better predictors of success than a college degree - READ THIS BOOK! If you are looking for a business that you can start with minimal costs - READ THIS BOOK! If you know there are ways to make money online in your spare time; but, you don't know what they are - READ THIS BOOK! You will be pleased if you buy and read this book. As you read it, it will feel as though Jonathan is an old friend who is sitting in the room next to you, having a conversation with you about how you can become more successful! Although I am sure there is something in Serve No Master that I didn't particularly care for (I'm fairly critical), I cannot recall anything, despite having finished the book only a couple of days ago. The one thing that does come to mind is that the author isn't the narrator. The narrator is great! But, if I had to choose, I would have liked to have heard it read by Jonathan Green. Enjoy! I did! So, Will you Serve No Master?

Refreshing

I read a lot of business books, self-help, and professional journals - most pass in the night with no real new value or insight. Less than 10% get an honorable mention but this one will. Thanks for delivering a great read packed with value and even a few laughs. I'm looking forward to finding more great reads by Jonathan.

Absolutely THE most relevant worthwhile topic

This book affirmed my beliefs about public education (drone factory). I gained some actionable knowledge- about business types, reducing travel expense,...- but I feel it details more of why one would want to transcend the 9-5 and and overviews a couple alternatives. A bit of fluff around the edges but a shift in mindset is what I gained from the core.

Pleasantly surprised.

I recently listened to this audiobook in exchange for an honest and candid review through Audiobook Boom. I was not required to give it a favorable review. That said, shortly after receiving the code to purchase this, I started the book and could not stop listening to it almost any chance I had where I didn't need to concentrate on reading or writing. First, the author is very likable, encouraging, down to earth, and I'm a sucker for books narrated with a British accent. Second, he shares a lot of insights from personal stories and experiences, particular technology or software he prefers, and for the most part this stuff was good, but being a couple years old, some of his suggestions are already outdated. For example, there was one instance he was sharing about video conversion software he prefers, and I thought of something else even faster and better that hosts the files online for you while you're recording them, But I only learned about Loom this year, and constantly use it whenever I can. So, one can't fault the author for that. It's the nature of sharing things that are not evergreen in a book whose topic for the most part is evergreen. I'm not sure I felt the book has an appropriate title, as the book was not ultimately what I was expecting, but it was still great stuff.

GREAT BOOK!!🙂👌

I loved the style and authenticity of this book... I would recommend it to anyone that wants to learn about the mindset it takes to live life on your own terms... The author shows the softskills you need to succeed online and offline ... This book is not a technical guide on how to run FB ads or the gear you need to shoot youtube videos...It’s about the mindset you need to gain (more) freedom in you life - I found some real nuggets here... I loved all the chapters but especially the introduction on how fear and conditioning holds most people back from taking new roads...I will actually make my daughter listen to this! PS: I dont get people leaving negative reviews on books like this- I mean you probably paid 10$ for the book on Audible It’s packed with value and if you didn’t learn anything you must be a very successful person that shouldn’t really waste their time leaving negative reviews
