The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city. Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time. Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was.

I've spent eight years wishing I'd fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains - every time it's the same wish: Forget about Derek. But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline. It's infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I'm around him, the better. Avoidance is key.

I don’t want you. You mean nothing to me. I never loved you. I turned my words into swords. And I cut her down. Shoved the blade in and watched her fall. I said I’d never hurt her and I did. Years later I’m faced with all the little lies, the untruths, the false realities, the damage I inflicted when all I wanted was to indulge in my obsession. Lavender Waters is the princess in the tower. Even her name is the thing fairy tales are made of. I used to be the one who saved her. Over and over again.
Description
New York Times best-selling author Emma Chase returns with a sweet and sexy stand-alone in the Royally Series.
Princess Lenora Celeste Beatrice Arabella Pembrook had an unusual childhood. She was raised to be a queen - the first queen of Wessco.
It’s a big deal.
When she’s crowned at just 19, the beautiful young monarch is prepared to rule. She’s charming, clever, confident, and cunning.
What she isn’t...is married.
It’s her advising council’s first priority. It’s what Parliament is demanding, and what her people want. Lenora has no desire to tie herself to a man - particularly one who only wants her for her crown. But compromises must be made and royals must do their duty.
Even queens. Especially them.
Years ago, Edward Langdon Richard Dorian Rourke, walked away from his title and country. Now he’s an adventurer - climbing mountains, exploring jungles, going wherever he wants, when he wants - until family devotion brings him home.
And a sacred promise keeps him there.
To Edward, the haughty, guarded little queen is intriguing, infuriating...and utterly captivating. Wanting her just might drive him mad - or become his greatest adventure.
Within the cold, stone walls of the royal palace - mistrust threatens, wills clash, and an undeniable, passionate love will change the future of the monarchy forever.
Every dynasty has a beginning. Every legend starts with a story.
This is theirs.

The Story I Didn't Know I Needed!
Royally Yours (Royally Series #4) by Emma Chase
Narrated by Shane East and Andi Arndt
Complete Standalone Prequel to the Royally Series. Royal Romance, Light Historical, Light RomCom
"Every dynasty has a beginning. Every legend starts with a story. This is ours."
Emma Chase has been a favorite author of mine for years, and she’s one of the rare ones whose books I will buy without reading the blurb. Since I loved the Royally series, of course I was so excited for Royally Yours, but I had no idea it was a series prequel about Queen Lenora! Royally Yours can absolutely be read on its own because it begins over 60 years before the other stories. If you have read the Royally Series you know all about the tough Queen Lenora, and getting to see how she became the ruler and grandmother she is now was more wonderful than I would have ever expected.
Being that the Wessco monarchy is very old fashioned even now, this story takes place in the 1950s and feels like a timeless historical. In other words, the story itself felt like it could take place any time, and since it was told in first person rather than third, it didn’t have the traditional historical feel.
"No woman is born a Queen, no matter the title attached to her name at birth. Kings are crowned. But queens.. queens rise. … And then…they reign."
Princess Lenora was born and bred to be Queen, and even as a little girl, she took the obligation to her people and her position very seriously. When she is thrust into the position as the first ruling Queen of Wessco at only 19, she was ready. Unfortunately, the Council was not ready for an unmarried queen. Responsible queen that she is, Lenora realizes that the only way she can accomplish anything with the council and her people is to reluctantly agree to marry. The prospects are grim though, until her best friend’s brother, Duke Edward, agrees to marry this beautiful woman who fascinates him.
"G-d dam*, how I want her. Not even in my wildest, most selfish adolescent days did I want to take and take a woman like I want to take her.
Wild and hard, lazy and long."
While this is an epic romance, it’s also the story of Lenora and her ascension to the throne. Her story is heartbreaking at times. She has lived a very lonely existence, and I shed more than a few tears while reading Royally Yours. It gives so much insight into the Queen Lenora of the future that we read about in the previous books. But when Edward enters her life, the adventurer she used to crush on from letters to his brother gave Lenora everything she needed.
I loved how Edward was all man, yet he had no problem being ruled by his wife. He was everything a partner should be and seeing Lenora as a happy, sexy, witty, fierce and independent woman was an absolute treasure. Though their romance didn’t commence until later in the book, that was OK with me, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story about Lenora that came first.
"Won’t you miss it? Won’t you miss the freedom, the adventure?"
I chuckle and shake my head, because she still doesn’t understand. I put my hand over hers.
“Making a life with you will be my greatest adventure, Lenora.”
Likes:
•Historical that even non-historical readers will love.
•First person.
•We really got to understand Queen Lenora. Her heart is pure, and her desire to rule the people she loves fairly are everything to her.
•The slow burn.
•There was a lot more emotion than I expected.
•Edward could not have been more perfect for her. I loved how he had no issues with his masculinity given the fact that his wife is the supreme ruler.
•She was fierce and headstrong, yet dignified and smart. She knew she had to make concessions to rule how she wants.
•I love that this can be read before or after the series.
Dislikes:
•The cover. The cover itself is nice, but this is so much Queen Lenora’s story! There should have been the queen, or an object on the cover. A shirtless man kind of cheapens the story in this case.
The Narration:
At first, I had a hard time with Andi Arndt (who is so familiar to me), doing a fake accent even though she did it well. Though I got used to it, I would have preferred someone with a real accent that I never even heard of. The male narration was excellent, and all- in-all, I think the narration added to my love for the book.
The Down & Dirty:
I think Royally Yours by Emma Chase is my favorite of the Royally Series. It can easily stand alone since it takes place 40+ years before the other books. I loved how fierce and independent the Queen was, but we also got to see first hand why she is a bit cold in the future. She has lived a lonely, extremely sheltered existence, and meeting the dashing, adventurous Edward could not have been better for her. I loved how this was very much Queen Lenora’s story, but it was also a sexy, swoony and funny romance. Bravo Emma Chase, it’s another 5-star favorite!

A story of royal love!
Woah... I mean... this was fabulous!! I love romance books but this was one of the most romantic books ever!! Like Lenora said, swooning is real, and I did it through this entire story!! This story of love built on so much tragedy is breathtaking. The characters are so strong and they seem so real. Emma Chase wrote an uniquely creative story that pulled me and captured my heart and my full interest!
These narrators, Shane East and Andi Arndt gave a standing ovation type of performance. I loved, like super duper hard Andi’s accent. They both convey emotion and feeling so thoroughly that you feel invested in this story!

Going into this book I had no clue what era I’d be reading about but after the first paragraph it didn’t matter. This author tells a tale that enraptures you from the start. I was definitely on a roller coaster of emotions while watching Princess Lenora grow into the beloved queen she came to be. This author broke my fat little heart but sent Edward in to fix it, and fix it he did. I love the power these two had over each other and with each other. I would love to see this story on the big screen and that’s saying a lot because I usually don’t like movies from this time period but this author made me love it so much. If you haven’t read the series then go and do it now!!!

Regally perfect
Royally Yours is Book 4 of The Royally Series, but it’s actually the expertly woven prequel to book 1. Emma takes you back to Queen Lenora’s younger years. The heartbreak, the love, the reigning, and the beginning of her perfect family...it’s all there. Lenny & her prince are regally swoon-worthy in every way. I devoured this book in one sitting. Andy Arndt and Shane East are impeccable as always. I’ll be listening to this one over and over. 5+ STARS!!!

Not my favorite, poor female narration
Love Andi Arndt as much as the next audiobook lover, but she was not the right choice for this book. Her accent was very distracting and kept pulling me out of the story. Shane East, on the other hand, was excellent. Audible really needs to create a male and female narration rating, rather than just one.
I have enjoyed all the other Royally books in this series, but this one just wasn't for me. Too much tragedy and not enough humor. There were definitely bright spots, mostly Edward's POV, that kept me listening to the end, but overall I was disappointed.

It is a great story. It just wasn't for me.
3.5 Crazy Ass Stars!!!
This review is absolutely killing me. I love Emma Chase and, up until now, have loved everything I have read by her. I know I'm in the minority here judging by my brief scan through ratings but this just was for me. The first several chapters just seemed to drag for me. It took me 3 days just to get to chapter 6. Anyone who knows me, knows that is unheard of. I will usually devour just as many books in as many days. Not the case with this one though.
Once the storyline picked up, I just couldn't get into it. I did love getting Lenora and Edward's story but honestly, I'm not into historical romances and I think that was part of my problem. Don't get me wrong, this is just my opinion on the story so don't feel as if I'm swaying you to not read it. I just don't do HR. It's not my jam.
Lenora and Edward's story was a beautiful one and if you have followed the series you know what the present is like for Lenore.
Historical romance may not be my jam but don't let my feelings deter you from reading this. It is a great story. It just wasn't for me.
Update: So I've still been stewing over this and why this didn't work for me. I think I have my hangup figured out. It was the dirty talk. It made me think, "Did they even talk like that back then?" It kinda felt a little "dinosaur love-ish". Then that led to me questioning things about my grandparents and that's just something that I do not need to know nor want to know. I guess I skeeved myself out thus not letting myself enjoy the beautiful story that this was. And it was a beautiful story when you take out the sexy times. If I would have skipped over those parts, I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more.

5 Million Stars for the Queen and her Prince
Royally Yours is the most amazing book ever!! I love Queen Lenora and her Prince, Edward. They make the perfect royal couple. Repeating their story now with the audiobook makes me love them even more. My favorite part is the honeymoon!! It was romantic and sexy and everything. Andi and Shane did an amazing job with Royally Yours. Perfect companion.
100% recommended.

Enjoyed it
So I was curious what others thought of the book and read some reviews. I feel more confused now!
I have read no other books in the series. This is the only one I have seen included in the Audible Escape membership and didn’t even know there were others I was “supposed” to have read to already know Lenora.
I love Emma Chase’s books, I wouldn’t say this was anywhere close to my favorite of hers, but I enjoyed it. The timeline setting is a little off but it’s okay. Where I think I got confused reading other reviews is how much people were overtaken by the beauty of love out of tragedy. I mean....yeah. There were two deaths. One she knew was coming because he was old and she never seemed too affected by it aside from the fact she became queen so young. The second death was sad, yes, but it’s barely mentioned as you get further into the story. They’re not constantly grieving, they’re actually very much just enjoying exploring their relationship.
I don’t know. I enjoyed it and will listen to the other Royally books if they become available on Escape.

andi arndt can’t pull off that accent
i have loved many books narrated by andi arndt, but the forced british accent was not convincing and way too distracting. also, what kind of palace is that where they can sneak out and back in without being detected? not my favorite emma chase book.
