Description
The camping trip from hell may be the first stop on the road to happily ever after in Rough Terrain, the final audiobook in Annabeth Albert’s critically acclaimed, fan-favorite Out of Uniform series.
Navy SEAL Renzo Bianchi has a soft spot for Canaan Finley, and not only because the man makes a mean smoothie. He’s the first guy to get Renzo’s motor revving in a long time. But when he agrees to Canaan’s insane charade - one all-access fake boyfriend, coming right up - he never expects more than a fling.
Creating a hot Italian SEAL boyfriend to save face seemed like a good idea...until his friends called Canaan’s bluff. Now, he’s setting off into the woods with the very man who inspired his deception, and Canaan is not the outdoorsy type. The sparks are already flying when a flash flood separates them from their group, leaving Renzo and Canaan very much trapped...very much alone in the wilderness.
Working together to come up with a plan for survival is sexier than either of them expects. But back in the real world, being a couple is bringing its own set of hazards....

loved the storyline and the narration. 2 strong characters with each heir own doubts, but they fall in love as they experience a tough challenge.

Loved it
I was concerned about this book as it didn’t get quite the great reviews the others in the series had. I was waiting for it to do downhill but it never did. It was excellent from start to finish. I lived the characters, the narrator and the story!! Highly recommend!!

Meh...not the best in the series/kind of boring
I've read all the books in the series except for 'Tight Quarters'. And decided to skip it to read Rough Terrain. Well I was rather disappointed by it. The plot isn't very intriguing and I didn't particularly care for either MC. I just thought them bland compare to the others in the series.
Renzo is a stiff, no-bullshit, person and I do like that about him a little, but on the other hand it does make him into a dry character too. And his obsession with fitness got on my nerves - yeah I know - his character is suppose to appease to a certain demographic and be inspirational...blah, blah. Canaan on the other hand, is a former band-traveling-orgy-hippy. Until the concert scene towards the end, I hadn't realized the author recycled his character from book 3, Ben and Maddox's story. Canaan was that twink from Ben and Maddox's couch scene, well I think it was the couch scene...don't quote me, I just remember them having a scene with him somewhere in the beginning. Canaan's a Frog-Hog. A seal chaser who got lucky this time solely because the recent seal he's ogling, Renzo, happens to actually like him back.
I didn't buy into Renzo and Canaan's connection. There was nothing profoundly deep about them and I felt that in this book, the author told more rather than show. The flow went on with the author telling over again how much they liked each other but the whole time I was just like "yeah so what, so does everyone who dates" how does this couple differ? And really, nothing so touching happens to even connect them so emotionally together either. Even their one day and night of being stranded out in the desert wasn't grand enough to plunge them into anything serious.
If you're looking for the sensational feelings most of the books in the series offered, you may not find it in this one. With the other books, I was able to finish each one while doing chores on the weekend but damn Rough Terrain bored me. I ended up stopping every now and then because my mind would trail off while listening. It took me two weeks to finish it, which I did only see what the full read/listen was like. This is a story of convenience and read more like an off-to-the-side couple who maybe should NOT have been given center stage. Somehow I kept thinking, so when's the main couple gonna show up. And I know most Gay romances presage HEA endings, in which I've read many stories that I superbly enjoy the last chapters or epilogues, wishing that the author created even longer epilogues because the characters and story were that mesmerizing I couldn't let them go. But not here. I HONESTLY DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN HERE. I skimmed through the last five chapters and I am returning this to get my credit back.
Overall: I do love Annabeth Albert, I've read nearly her entire series here without commenting because really, I would just be saying "Oh so good, I loved it". So I didn't leave any comments until - here. I just don't like this one. I hope, if there's a next in the series, she goes back to writing in-depth substantial characters and settings. No more 2-dimensional characters and bland plots of convenience.
Narrator: Greg Boudreaux is a champ at what he does. Always love hearing him.

I really enjoyed this series.
These two were the perfect ending for the series. Renzo and Canaan meet at a coffee shop. Get to know each other. Canaan then finally asked Renzo out. Great first date. Canaan is getting pushed to go on a camping trip with his old band mates. He wants to meet up with the ban but doesn’t want the drama of his ex. He then ask Renzo if he would be his fake boyfriend so everyone would stop hassling him. Renzo grungly agrees. They get caught up on a flash flood and basically save each other. The relationship is on for real now. They have some hurdles to jump over and some past plans they come into the mix but they will get it figured out.

Great Story, great performance.
Loved this story, the best in the series imo. Greg does great reading this, and makes you feel like you're there. I keep coming back to have this story told again. This book needs at least a made for TV movie or show.

Fake boyfriend + adventure + fantastic narration!
I’m reviewing this book after reading it for the second time and it’s still a solid 5 out of 5. I always love how Annabeth writes interesting characters, depicts different kinds of s*xuality, adds in delicious tension and a little drama, and always delivers satisfying HEAs. Canaan and Renzo had some really stubborn moments, and Renzo especially could be a total knucklehead, but they both had issues to work through and did so over the course of the book. Ultimately I really loved these guys and how realistic their relationship felt.
The audiobook is narrated by Greg Boudreaux and he always does an awesome job bringing the characters and story to life. Highly recommending listening to this book!
Rough Terrain includes demis*xuality, a BIG size difference and an MC who is self conscious about it, forced proximity, adventure/survival, and fake boyfriends.

Rambling
Enjoyable enough, but it felt a bit rambling, like it needed to be tightened up some…

OMG great listen
More than liked, loved this way end the series. Can’t wait to listen to the fire jumpers series. Don’t know if friends are into audible, I would if they were. Loved the story and the whole thing about everyone’s anatomy is different, totally get the family parts too, we can’t live without them.
