With no other resources at his disposal, Sylveste forges a dangerous alliance with the cyborg crew of the starship Nostalgia for Infinity. But as he closes in on the secret, a killer closes in on him because the Amarantin were destroyed for a reason. And if that reason is uncovered, the universe - and reality itself - could be irrevocably altered.

"Ferociously intelligent and imbued with a chilling logic - it may really be like this Out There." (Stephen Baxter, co-author of The Light of Other Days)

The world created by this author is quite fantastic, including different alien species (living or otherwise), interplanetary travel and surviving it in a sleeper pod, mishaps that could happen because of that, longevity treatments and technological advancement.
I don't know if it's the narrator or the book itself, but the switching between characters within a chapter was very confusing. I had to pay serious attention to every word to guess which character was involved now. Probably it's the narrator, because I've already listened to other books like this and it wasn't too difficult.
Finally I need to address the stigma the author perpetuates about autism. I think this is mentioned in the later books in the series, but it is clear that the author considers all autistic people as defective in the brain department. This is especially clear when the author writes that a certain character had "reverse autism" where it was brilliant and capable of very high intelligence.. Such a shame really.
I really wanted to like it
