Description
A Harvard biologist and master inventor explores how new biotechnologies will enable us to bring species back from the dead, unlock vast supplies of renewable energy, and extend human life.
In Regenesis, George Church and science writer Ed Regis explore the possibilities of the emerging field of synthetic biology. Synthetic biology, in which living organisms are selectively altered by modifying substantial portions of their genomes, allows for the creation of entirely new species of organisms.
These technologies - far from the out-of-control nightmare depicted in science fiction - have the power to improve human and animal health, increase our intelligence, enhance our memory, and even extend our life span.
A breathtaking look at the potential of this world-changing technology, Regenesis is nothing less than a guide to the future of life.

Brilliant! But please update!
This book is amazing - but all references are from the roughly 2012 timeframe. This subject is too important and fast moving not to update.

Great book…. Difficult to hear as audiobook
This book is great but the reader sounds so monotone and nasal. It was difficult to get through but the content was great

Solid foundations from world expert
I’m a health educator trying to understand genomics, and found this book to be an ideal start (after having already spent 50+ hours researching online in 2022. This was a SUPER helpful overview to help me make sense of a world that I have no formal education in…

Just not a Worthwhile Book
Some write 1 book you could 10,000 times. Other write 10, 000 books you can’t read once. This one probably skews closer to once.

Great content - awful narration
Just as my title says - the narrator is that bad, that i wanted to give up listening it.
But i did not, only because the interesting content. It is a good mixture of the scientific insights and a philosophical discussion about their potential implications.
I felt that the book is exactly for me, but i still find it hard to recommend because if the quality of the narration.
