    Description

The stunning, critically-acclaimed follow-up to best-selling The Quantum Magician

    The Ultimate Chase

Days ago, Belisarius pulled off the most audacious con job in history. He's rich, he's back with the love of his life, and best of all, he has the Time Gates, arguably the most valuable things in existence. Nothing could spoil this...except the utter destruction of his people and the world they lived on.

To save them, he has to make a new deal with the boss he just double-crossed, to travel back in time and work his quantum magic once again, tracking down the source of the wormholes.

If he can avoid detection, dodge paradox, and stay ahead of the eerie, relentless Scarecrow, he might just get back to his own time alive.

    My First Book Review

I have been an Audible member since 2006 and have listened to hundreds of books. While I have been tempted, and wanted to write a review - there have been many excellent works - I feel now that I must. I loved the Quantum Magician, but was not hopeful for a decent sequel. Too often have I been disappointed or have become quickly tired with a series, thus I had no expectations. I wasn't even waiting for a sequel, and was instead considering a break from Audible, or at least from the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres. I was thinking, maybe it's just me, am I getting too old to be able to suspend disbelief for 10 or 12 hours? Should I finally embrace reality and cut the grass, set up a budget, watch CNN? Then suddenly, my future self travelled back through the Axis Mundi Wormholes to point out that Mr. Kunsken had indeed written a sequel and that I should give it a go. I found the Quantum Garden to be even more engaging and hilarious than the Quantum Magician. Mr. Kunsken's detail with the science was pleasantly mind boggling for a so-not-a-science person like myself, and yet it wasn't overwhelming either. It was perfectly convincing and I believe added authenticity to the tale. The characters were beautifully sculpted, memorable and lovable. Several times throughout the novel I was either laughing out loud or weeping, once while sipping espresso in Starbucks. T.Ryder Smith's narration was brilliant. I felt as though I was transported by the experience, total immersion, not just simply listening to a story. Thank you Mr. Kunsken and to all the human and alien life forms who aided in nurturing and encouraging your wonderful mind. I am both thankful and in awe of it.

Excellent sequel to The Quantum Magician

This is a great follow-up to The Quantum Magician - you must read that book first. While that book is often compared to "Ocean's 11 in space", this book is not an "Ocean's 12". I was disappointed that a couple of the characters that I loved in the first book are not in this one, but they were minor characters. This book didn't have quite the diverse and fun supporting cast as did The Quantum Magician, but this is still a 5 star book. If you've read and enjoyed The Quantum Magician, you'll equally love this book. If you haven't read The Quantum Magician, read that first!

Highly recommended. Note also, a sequel will be coming out in 2021, but this book does not leave you with a cliff-hanger; it does come to a conclusion.

Piss on every leg. Bite every hand.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, and was worried that the second book would not be as good. Fortunately, the second book holds its own well. It was a very enjoyable read. This book doesn't have the caper element of the first, but deals more with the fall out and ramifications of the first story. Belisarius is back, with a few of the characters from the first book. His goal now, protect the rest of the Homo Quantis now that everyone sees what they are capable of. Some of my favorite supporting characters are also back, Saint Matthew the AI, and Stills, the Mongrel pilot. Excellent, entertaining, and enjoyable read!

    WOW and HOLY CRAP!!

Great book, great story! Good news, Stills is back. The storyline is very interesting and holds your attention. It has a whole bunch of "I didn't see that coming" followed with "how is he gonna get us through this with only x time left on the book?!" also a huge bonus for me was a whole lot of sci fi aspect without one single space battle, I mean I've heard/read a lot of space battles and I seem to be growing tired of them (unless of course, you get Stills narrative with T Ryder Smith) which by the way T Ryder Smith may be the best Audio performer out there, He can do Men and Women equally well, FANTASTIC range, but his Scarecrow will make your neck hairs stand up. Many thanks again Derek for another well thought out, exciting ride, I almost feel I owe you another credit for this one and can't wait for the next, Please don't make it a trilogy (needs to be a series) I could follow Bell all the way to Bootes void and back. As always please click on my name to ensure this is a genuine review. I give honest feedback.

    Original, interesting concepts

I'm mostly ignorant and much of the deeper quantumy, sciency bits are lost on me. Even so, the author knows how to keep it interesting. The story and performance kept me engaged and I look forward to the next installment (hopefully it will have more Puppet shenanigans!).

    Sci-fi on Another Level

Prepare to be blown away. These books redefine what sci-fi can be. The depth of story telling and thought are simply 10 times better than they need to be. And T. Ryder Smith??? He has redefined story telling. I would follow him to the ends of the earth. I have my favorite narrators and he is so far beyond the best it’s scary. I thought the best of sci-fi was over and these books have set a new bar.

These books are so good and so deep that they you will want to listen over and over again. This was a first for me. I immediately listened to the first book a second time to absorb so much more meaning. They are fast paced, detailed, freaky, deep, layered, mysterious, and enthralling.

Be prepared to be blown away and quickly left behind. They will push you to the brink of understanding on many levels. Not for the faint of IQ... Good luck...

    What a great sequel

I simply love the books from Derek Kunsken. The stories are well crafted and in my opinion they are a perfect mix of technical sci-fi and a colourful gallery of persons. I was worried if Derek could pull of a worthy sequel to a fantastic book (The quantum magician) but that worry was put to shame. What an excellent follow up with a new story that was adequately separate from the first book. I hope there will be a third!

    Amazing

2nd novel is as good as any in the sci fi realm, we’ll developed good and evil characters, interesting motives and plot: humans with quantum powers. A new niche in sci fi, we’ll written by Kunsken and we’ll read by TRS! Loved it and I’ve read around 150 SF titles.

Too much big brain and not enough story.

Spends too much time with quantum speculation and 'theory'. The story could have been much better. The Hortas Quantus subplot seemed underdeveloped and out of place. Same with the Scarecrow, other than to set up the sequel.

    Intriguing

I enjoyed the first book and the second book was almost better. I liked hearing his quantum intellect take over and how raw information came into understanding. I look forward to other books in this series.

The birth of the time lords

That's such a good story, really feels like the birth of the time lords - really loved it :)
