    Description

The book discusses different aspects of measurement and assessment including the psychological interview and psychological test along with the role ethics can play among such a process. It is of importance when developing a new measure to incorporate one's knowledge of statistics. The question of utility in diagnosis arises and of the utility of psychometrics and cultural competence to a test. A career/business assessment occurs along with an assessment of learning disability. An in-depth discussion occurs of the cognitive affective processing system (CAPS). The purpose of book one is to demonstrate the many functions, factors, and implements involved in the process of measurement and assessment.

It is the influence of personality characteristics affecting our social and occupational choices. The development of personality characteristics occurs not during one but each developmental stage of the lifespan. This book discusses such theories as those belonging to Erik Erikson, Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm, Gordon Allport, among other theorists. The greatest focus among the book centers on Gordon Allport and Erich Fromm and his humanistic psychoanalysis. Fromm's thesis is despite mankind being pulled apart from their union among one another by evolution, they continue to possess the power of reason.

As ethics can represent an expansion into multiple domains, so too can the code of ethics as set forth by the American Psychological Association (APA). These principles of ethics guide the behavior of practicing psychologists among their profession. This set of ethical principles can act as a guide of behavior for individuals within multiple facets of life. The major principles to the Code of Ethics involve avoiding harm, practicing fairness, avoiding misrepresentation, providing fair access to treatment, and respecting the value and worth of all.
