Brilliant insight and narration
One of the most enjoyable audible narrators.
The book is both a good and easy read. It links well known global historical facts to world geography that explain world politics of today. I highly recommend for readers who are not majorly involved in politics, but would like to start understanding them.

Disappointed
I read the chapters on Russia and China with earnest and thought wow! I've learn quite a few things here. Then I skipped to the chapter on Africa and immediately changed my view. Like sooo many other writers on Africa, the continent is described with one overriding narrative: a war torn, conflict stricken land. Africa is AND the about the civil war in the DRC and previous fighting in Angola, Rwanda and Burundi. There is more to African economies than South Africa. For me, the limited scope in the one chapter on Africa was a strong indication of the flawed views the writer took in all the other chapters, so I stopped listening after that. Disappointed.

No PDF maps
Great book and well narrated. But I simply can’t understand how audible would not include the maps from the hard copy as an accompanying pdf. This is one book that absolutely needs a pdf to go with it.

Inhalt gut, Hörbuch technisch mangelhaft
Ich weiß nicht, ob es an mir liegt oder nicht, aber das Hörbuch lies sich nicht mit dem Kindle Buch synchronisieren. Vielleicht liegt es auch daran, dass es wirkt, als hätte jemand angefangen das Hörbuch ins Backend einzupflegen und dann in der Mitte aufgehört. Eigentlich besitzt das Buch 10 Kapitel, die im wesentlichen eine Stunde gehen sollen (gemessen an den vorhandenen 5 Kapiteln). Leider ist das Hörbuch ab Kapitel 6 ein großer, fünfstündiger Block, der sich für mich nicht mit dem Kindle Buch synchronisieren lies. Das hat mein Hörerlebnis natürlich gestört. Wer es auf die gleiche Art und Weise nutzen möchte, sollte sich also auf ein wenig Frust einstellen.
Inhaltlich habe ich hingegen nichts zu bemängeln. Ich finde es ist ein interessanter Denkanstoß in Sachen Geopolitik und wirft auf jeden Fall ein anderes Licht auf viele Entscheidungen, die in den letzten 150 Jahren getroffen wurden.

Sehr angenehm leider ein Problem mit den Kapiteln
Tim Marshall erklärt die Zusammenhänge sehr gut und für Einsteiger ist dieses (Hör-)Buch sehr zu empfehlen. Die Kapitellänge ist auch gut gewählt, sodass man das Buch bequem zwischendurch lesen/hören kann.
Mehr gäbe es nicht zu sagen, wenn es da nicht dieses Problem der Kapitelwahl gäbe. Leider endet das Hörbuch mit Kapitel 6 und alle nachfolgenden Kapitel sind darin enthalten. Heißt, ich muss den Anfang selbst suchen (oder einfach da weiterhören, wo es endete). Das Hörbuch bezieht sich auf eine ältere Ausgabe des Buchs und so fehlen einige Passagen der neuesten Version des Buches. Daher 4 von 5 Sterne aber es ist dennoch eine klare Kaufempfehlung.

I would appreciate if he writes an update every decade
His perspective explained the Ukraine/Russia situation early in 2014 and his understanding of China is also impressive. I believe most of what happened today was predictable yet people chose to gamble.

Interesting, Logical and frightening
Many things I heard, some I knew but never had it all on one plate. Even though I am aware it is not the source of every conflict mankind has, it is very good explained what motivations some people have - plus it gives a good recap of territorial war history

Ein 2022/23 update wäre gut......

Für Liebhaber der Geschichte und Geopolitik ist wirklich interessant und wirklich gut geschrieben
Ich habe die englische Version gekauft. Das Lesebuch ist super, er hat mich erstaunlicherweise ein wenig an Stephen Fry erinnert.
Es ist lästig, dass die Kapitel zwischen sechs und zehn alle zusammen sind, und deshalb ist es ärgerlich, den Anfang eines bestimmten Teils zu finden. Das ist wahrscheinlich ein Bug.
Denn... ja, man wird einige bestimmte Teile mehrmals hören.
