In Politics: A Very Short Introduction, Kenneth Minogue begins with a discussion of issues arising from a historical account of politics and goes on to offer chapters dealing with the Ancient Greeks and the idea of citizenship; Roman law; medieval Christianity and individualism; freedom since Machiavelli and Hobbes; the challenge of ideologies; democracy, oligarchy, and bureaucracy; power and order in modern society; and politics in the West.

Although some courses are clearly oriented by academic influences (would it be Marx or Fukuyama or anyone else), they usualy achieve their goal at giving you a clearl understanding of the field. Here Kenneth Minogue, an old school conservative militant, fails to teach us anything but how to use the guise of the educator to defend histoire own views. Every sentence is carefully tinkered to lead you from relativism to a warning against idealism (mostly marxism and universal humain rights, wokism is absent but if Minogue had lived today he would love it) only to claim that one ideology is preferable : conservatism, materialised into an oligarchic and aristocratic state.
