Description

Supermodel and super CEO of our time Tyra Banks and her mother Carolyn show readers why when you kick perfection to the curb and showcase your unique beauty ain't nobody gonna stop you!

In Perfect Is Boring, Tyra Banks and her mother, Carolyn, get raw, real, and cray-in-a-good-way as they share what they’ve learned on Tyra’s journey from insecure preteen to supermodel and entrepreneurial powerhouse. Though she’ll be the first to tell you she is not her daughter’s best friend - 'cause she ain't that kinda mama! - there’s no doubt that Carolyn’s signature mix of pep talks and tough love got Tyra to where she is today, and here they pay it forward to empower readers with a reminder that perfect really isn’t all that.

Whether they’re writing about watching Tyra’s most imperfect moment go viral (does “Be Quiet Tiffany!” ring any bells?), no-holds-barred sex talks, or how they’ve overcome everything from fashion industry discrimination to media fat-shaming and a misguided attempt at a music career, they never lose their sense of humor or we-got-your-back-spirit. Full of smart, wise, and often hilarious lessons for mothers, daughters, fathers, and sons everywhere - including “Take Responsibility for Yourself”, “Lip Gloss + Pizza Sauce = Boss”, and “Fix It or Flaunt It” - Perfect Is Boring is a must-listen for anyone who needs a kick in the booty, a pat on the back, or a good reason to laugh out loud.

Momma London is so Funny!

I have to admit, I thought the combo narration would be all sorts of corny but it was well done and Tyra' s mom had me laughing. I wish I had a woman like her in my life.

I Expected More

Reading the reviews for this book, I expected something stellar. The performance was all right, most parts felt real. I was hoping to be inspired by the book but I guess it's really just an autobiography. It's impressive that Tyra has been able to get so far in her career and I respect her determination and talent. We've all heard the "love your body" spiel a million times but Tyra puts it well by saying "fix it or flaunt it."
Some of the book gets a bit preachy and it felt a little disingenuous. Was she using slang because that's how she talks or was she just using it just to appeal to the younger crowd?
Overall, it's a fun, light read if you really want to hear Tyra's story. But if you're looking for a kick in the butt, there are better books available.

What would Tyra say

This is one of my favorite audible books. I love Tyra and her awesome mama even more after listening. So inspiring as well! Try it out! You won’t regret it.

P. S. Now I want to ask myself “what would Tyra say” whenever I’m not living up to my potential.

A future parent must listen

Tyra Banks overcame adversity, becoming one of the most admired and influential African American models the fashion industry has known to love.

Tyra Banks did not initially have the complete ideal model look growing up, but Ms. Banks disregarded all the naysayers that told her she didn't have what it took to make to the very top in her modeling career.

Tyra Banks had to grow into her body because although she had the height of a potential supermodel, Ms. Banks went through much criticism from professional model agencies that's told her she didn't have the face or filling to become a supermodel.

Tyra Banks has a fire within her similar to Medusa's turn to Stone power her beauty seizing the attention of onlookers mesmerizing anyone who lays eyes on her on a runway or through a camera lens.

Tyra Banks became the inspiration of millions of young black women seeking a fashion-oriented modeling career breaking decade standing why are you on racial barriers.
Tyra Banks touched millions of lives through modeling inspiring young women to follow their dreams in spite of negative people telling you that you aren't good enough.

It doesn't matter whether you have big boobs or small boobs a big ass or little butt; as long as you are comfortable with your body, you should not pay attention to what anybody else says you should look because it's none of their business. As a human being, I believe Tyra Banks's purpose and Mission on this Earth was to inspire women to be proud of who they are, no matter what they look like

Our genetic makeup and experiences define who we are. Still, It doesn't matter whether you have big boobs or small boobs a big ass or little ass as long as you are comfortable with your body you should not pay attention to what anybody else says you should look like because it's none of their business. We fail to understand that because our actions and experiences will never be the same, each of us is in our unique way perfect. As a human being, I believe Tyra Banks's purpose and mission on this Earth was to inspire women to be proud of who they are, no matter what body they were born into. Through all of our existence, we are quested with the task to love ourselves, only when we can love ourselves can one genuinely love someone else.

The only reason you shouldn't love yourself is if your sadistic piece of garbage that does things to harm people or s because they have done horrible acts of violence. And if you still can't love yourself, you aren't in the right environment to be able to mean you need the right people in your life or you haven't gone through the psychological tests that prove to yourself that you deserve to be loved.

Inspirational and Dramatic

I appreciated these two fiercesome voices telling their truths and sharing those vulnerabilities and lessons learned. Inspiring! At times their dramatic retellings could be grating with stutters and real portrayals of those difficult moments. I guess that just makes you a more empathic listener, but it was tiring at times. Made those final lessons worth it.

This book was far from perfect!

Listening to this was like the time I first picked up, "Are you there God? It's me, Margaret." Thank you for being so real and always mentoring us through all you do.

Woooooooow!! Bang Bang Banks!!

I'm cross-eyed happy and can't even explain but I guess the words I can find for now is you rock goddess queen Ty Ty and mama Carolyn.

I remember when I was on your talk show years back in L.A. on stage with you and Nick Cannon and his team. I splashed water on your dress and you were not happy...#sowwy🙈. I was mortified. I could not believe that I was on your show standing next to you, that girl who was bullied for being ugly and fat with big boobs claves that I always had to hide in pants and socks every chance I got..

I was onTyra's show, Barely months after my fiance broke up with me because his sister and mother did not think I was beautiful or good enough for him. They wish they never did that now.
I was the model that was told to lose some weight even tho I had a fierce walk and high cheek bones that people raved about and I did the work but had no support like Mama Carolyn just me. Family all in Africa, I felt alone and gave up.

How ever, you made me feel like the woman God made me to be and not confirming to other people's idea of beauty and I have been helping other women feel the same ever since with my gift thanks to you.

I did not model much because I got confused but I was hired to train women on their walk at a few Miss Africa beauty pagents.

You live a beautiful "flawsome" life Ty Ty and inspire beautiful change in people you may not even know in a huge snowball effect.
Thank you. I laughed along as I read. It felt like my sister and I in the bedroom with digging in icecream and catching up lol.

you have no idea what a legend you are.

Stay true TY Ty. I love you.
