Her city is under siege.

The zombies are coming back.

And all Nona wants is a birthday party.

In many ways, Nona is like other people. She lives with her family, has a job at her local school, and loves walks on the beach and meeting new dogs. But Nona's not like other people. Six months ago she woke up in a stranger's body, and she's afraid she might have to give it back.

The whole city is falling to pieces. A monstrous blue sphere hangs on the horizon, ready to tear the planet apart. Blood of Eden forces have surrounded the last Cohort facility and wait for the Emperor Undying to come calling. Their leaders want Nona to be the weapon that will save them from the Nine Houses. Nona would prefer to live an ordinary life with the people she loves, with Pyrrha and Camilla and Palamedes, but she also knows that nothing lasts forever.

And each night, Nona dreams of a woman with a skull-painted face...

I really really loved the two previous books but found this one slightly too slow paced.
Also I’m just not generally a fan of a child narrator.
Other than that it was still a great read.

Slightly underwhelming

There were lots of touches of humour in this book and it was fantastically read and whilst being less confusing than the 2nd book it was still confusing and I was left feeling like I don't really know what happened in the end!

Well read and witty

Reading this trilogy felt like how I imagine an insane person might try to hang onto sanity. but instead of sanity it's continuity and plot. It was an experience, and not even a bad one, but it wasn't exactly a story. In this final book, you could miss multiple entire chapters and not have it effect the ending. Partly because not a lot if meaningful information is divulged, and partly because the ending was another cliff hangar/abstract finish. Great ideas and concepts. I don't regret listening but the books do feel more engineered to make you want to know more while only leaving you with more questions, which feels a little a sales mechanism.
