An epic collection of science fiction tales around space exploration and cosmic horror by the number one best-selling author of A Game of Thrones - with the titular story, 'Nightflyers', coming to Netflix in the summer of 2018.
On a voyage toward the boundaries of the known universe, nine misfit academics seek out first contact with a shadowy alien race.
But another enigma is the Nightflyer itself, a cybernetic wonder with an elusive captain no one has ever seen in the flesh. Soon, however, the crew discovers that their greatest mystery - and most dangerous threat - is an unexpected force wielding a thirst for blood and terror....
Also included are five additional classic George R. R. Martin tales of science fiction that explore the breadth of technology and the dark corners of the human mind.
"I always expect the best from George R. R. Martin, and he always delivers." (Robert Jordan)
"Of those who work in the grand epic-fantasy tradition, Martin is by far the best. In fact...this is as good a time as any to proclaim him the American Tolkien." (Time)
"Long live George Martin...A literary dervish, enthralled by complicated characters and vivid language, and bursting with the wild vision of the very best tale tellers." (The New York Times)
Ce que les auditeurs disent de Nightflyers and Other Stories
- Ingo Guenther
Not much new about this one
Three of the stories (including the eponymous "Nightflyer") have already been included in the 50+ hours anthology "Dreamsongs", which is also availabe via Audible (https://www.audible.de/pd/Dreamsongs-Unabridged-Selections-Hoerbuch/B006U3Y7BO) and therefore is the recommended "read". Of the three other stories only two ("Override" and "Weekend in a War Zone") are in my opinion close to the high standards I impose to George R. R. Martin's writing. All of them have been published before. So I can neither wholeheartedly recommend nor advise against this collection. It totally depends on the number of stories one already knows. Or, as the author himself states on his Facebook page: "In other words, this is a real grab bag of a collection." Audio: The narrator does a good job, which just lifts the final score up to 4 stars.
