From 20-year veteran storyteller Pleasant DeSpain, known for reducing folktales to their essence, 20 "retellable" folktales from around the world. Folktales captivate generation after generation because they remind us that our forebears overcame seemingly insurmountable odds and we can, too! Folktale characters show us the best in ourselves; our sense of humor, our perseverance, our resilience that overcomes giant hurdles, and our innate sense of fair play.

Editor's review

Every Culture around the world tells stories and, with so many people, there’s certainly no shortage of tales. Pleasant DeSpain is a skilled storyteller who crafts verbal yarns from folklore that he’s gathered in his travels around the world. This audiobook blends fun, culturally relevant musical accompaniment with DeSpain’s colorful voices and jocular narrations. This multicultural collection includes "Old Joe and the Carpenter", an American folktale that teaches the simple lesson that friendship is more important than possessions; "Grandfather Spider’s Feast", an African tale where a spider’s greed gets the better of him; and many more delightful stories from around the globe.
