Morris the Moose can’t read or count, so he decides to go to school.
He only wants candy, but he cannot count his pennies to pay for gumdrops. Inside Miss Fine’s classroom, the eager moose is too big for a chair and sits right on top of the desk.
Once the lessons start, Morris is frightened that the letter B will sting him. He opens the wrong door when he cannot read the signs, tries out hoof-painting, and even pretends to be a coat closet. Later in the afternoon, he is delighted to discover he can count up to twelve on his own antlers.
After a day of ABCs and 123s, Morris is thrilled with all that he has learned. This classic silly Level One I Can Read is perfect for shared reading with a child.
For fans of Danny and the Dinosaur, Sammy the Seal, or anyone who loves to read silly stories about animals.
- Early Literacy: When Miss Fine introduces the letter C, Morris thinks of swimming in the sea, and he proudly joins in once she teaches the class how to spell M-O-O-S-E.
- First Day of School: Recess brings double the fun when Morris manages to jump rope and play ball at the exact same time.
- Unlikely Hero: The afternoon bell rings, and this gentle giant wonders if the ice-cream man has arrived before happily helping his new classmates with their coats.
- Also by This Author: Morris the Moose and Morris and Boris at the Circus.
