Description

Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity.

The audiobook is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. Milk and Honey takes listeners through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.

Underwhelmed Contemporary Poetry

Felt like reading a Tumblr of Instagram captions
Personal and easy to listen to ... but not sure. Fan of Anne Carson.

Beautiful and Intense

This book offers an uncompromising perspective of the authors emotions - it is shockingly relatable.
It is a wildly beautiful and intense journey.

Meh

Bought this to see what the hype was about. In my opinion, this is a book that loses pretty much all of its appeal when listened to as an audiobook. I thought that being narrated by Rupi herself, it would be alright. I failed to realize that the charm of Rupi's writing lies mostly in its presentation. As poetry, it doesn't really stand on its own, and it truly needs those little sketches to come to life.

I have no words

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Maybe I need to read poetry more...I did not understand the hype.

Would you ever listen to anything by Rupi Kaur again?

Absolutely not

What three words best describe Rupi Kaur’s voice?

Relaxing. Boring. Soothing?

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Milk and Honey?

n/a

Any additional comments?

I’m lukewarm on her.

I kind of feel like she’s an angry, hurt and bitter poet. Not much to the book itself other than WOMAN are oppressed and could empower each other. A few sexual fantasies thrown in and light on the love.

Overall, average.. But art is art.... it’s only interpreted.

Disappointed

I was so excited to get this but it’s so sexual in a form of abuse and seems like a cry for help more than it does poetry. Do not recommend

Dark and depressing.

It is well done but the subject matter is dark and depressing. I did not like the book. I can see why others connected with it but this book was not for me.

Not at all what I expected

I was doing a lot of research of books to help with growing emotionally, google highly recommended this book. The quality of the reading and sound was great though.

Not my cup of tea.

It sounds like a diary, not poetry. The beginning can be triggering for those who have suffered from sexual abuse. The lilting voice of the narrator quickly became annoying to me. Definitely a struggle for me to finish.

Worth to read and listen but doesn’t touch the ceiling

I read the book first and listened to the great audiobook read by the author thereafter. I was both greatly shocked and fascinated about the first chapter that uses plain language to illustrate women as material sexual objects. The book tells a long story short about the transformation of feeling as such an object right to a more self-confident and self-reliant person. I personally enjoyed reading and listening the chapter ‚the healing‘. All in all, the collection of poems is worth to read, but it doesn’t touch the ceiling or gets through.
