Description
In the Czar’s Suite of Kiev’s five-star Persian Palace, police discover a body jammed impossibly deep in a narrow ventilation duct. Security cameras reveal that no one else entered the supersecure room.
An ocean away, Interpol rookie Delta Devlin witnesses an attempted assassination, but the bullet meant for the Ukrainian prime minister hits her father instead, lodging next to his heart. Investigations reveal that ex-KGB operator Yuri Korshunov smuggled a 3D-printed plastic gun into the UN Building.
As her father falls into a mysterious coma, Devlin tracks down infamous tech wunderkind Lenny Bondar at the Maker Faire, a global gathering of hackers. Desperate, she follows Korshunov and Bondar into the underworld of Eastern Europe. There, her worst nightmares materialize from the darkness. Something is coming for her, and it may not even be alive.
With Russian troops massed on the borders, and her father on the brink of death, Del follows a trail of bizarre murders ever deeper into no-man’s-land. But can she uncover the truth and save her father before a new kind of war forever alters the world?

Insanely Riveting. I Couldn’t Put It Down
Meet Your Maker is technically the first book in the Delta Devlin series, but it’s not the first book that features her. I did not read the book that was technically a prequel to this (where we were first introduced to Devlin as a side character). But, I definitely didn’t notice anything was missing. I felt like I knew Delta pretty well and this book did a good job introducing (or re-introducing) her to new readers.
Easily one of my favorite parts of reading a Matthew Mather book is the realism. Sure, it’s still a fictional story, but Mather makes sure that a lot of what happens in the story is based on real life. Most of the stuff he talked about in Meet Your Maker has developed so quickly that even in the time since he wrote the book (later 2019) to now, things have continued to grow and improve like he was talking about. Another thing you get with a Mather book is well-researched and real topics. Finally, you usually get insanely cutting edge technology used in scary ways. This book definitely has all of those.
The story itself honestly felt ripped out of the headlines with different conflicts and similar things that this was based on continue to happen in the dumpster fire that is 2020. I found it insanely riveting and I couldn’t put it down. Mather created a world that I definitely cannot wait to get back into and a world with a main character who is just a bit different than your usual main characters that you can’t help but root for her.
I thought that January LaVoy did a great job narrating this story and becoming Delta. I thought that she was the perfect voice for it and I hope that she’s tapped to narrate other books in this series.
Now that I’m finished with this, I’m likely going to go down a Youtube hole researching a lot of the stuff that was featured in this, but especially the condition that affected Delta’s vision.

Good
Better than good. Looking forward to more. Prescient. Interesting concepts explored in a paranoid way but maybe I am not paying attention.
