Audrey believes that her ex is in the past, her relationship with Marshall is entirely platonic, and that James' love is unimpeachable. Then an unplanned pregnancy shuffles their places in each other's lives.

It also qualifies as African American fiction (the three main characters and majority of secondary characters are Black), which is not to say that it is primarily about race.
