This audiobook takes a look back in history to understand several things, including: why it took so long for the news to reach Galveston; common misconceptions about the Civil War; President Lincoln and the emancipation experience for African Americans held as slaves; what it was like for formerly enslaved people once they were free; why so few Americans have been aware of Juneteenth; what Juneteenth has meant to African Americans and how it has been dismissed by many Americans; and more.
