Journey to the West is one of the Chinese Noble Classics.
In ancient China a magical monkey appears, creating chaos everywhere he goes. The only way to put his tricks and talents to good use is to make him protector of Xuanzang, a young and handsome monk determined to travel from China to India in search of precious scriptures.
Monkey and his fellow disciples, Piggy and Sandy, have to protect Xuanzang from monsters and demons who think they can live forever just by taking bites out of the monk.
Can Xuanzang and his loyal disciples reach India safely and find what they seek? Do they have enough confidence and courage to conquer the demons, both those lurking around them and those within their own hearts?
Full of humour and adventure, Journey to the West is a story of self-discovery and the pursuit of excellence. Written by Chinese scholar Wu Cheng’en more than four hundred years ago, it reflects everyone’s pilgrimage toward truth, peace, and beauty.

Apparently you can't get a full audiobook of this
This is an abridged copy not just a translation of the Chinese story and I hadn't realized until I started it but this is the children's book version.

What did you like best about Journey to the West? What did you like least?
The story, the characters, the adventure. Everything about Journey to the West is amazing, unfortunately this version is extremely condensed to the point of distraction.
Would you be willing to try another book from Wu Cheng'en and Christine Sun ? Why or why not?

I wish the full book was available for audible. I own two different physical versions and they're amazing reads. Unfortunately, for me, this version was a bit too dumbed down.

weird story. I bet it's better in longer form

A brief, yet charming version of the classic
I was not so impressed by the narrator Michelle Tate's impressions of characters (which all sound very alike) or the lack of authentic Chinese names. If this is suited for children then it could have used some simpler, more lively translations. However, this audiobook did foster my interest in this book, so I will be reading the entire unabridged version very soon.

A fantastic story!
I loved it, I've seen many of the movies and shows about it. But I greatly enjoyed the story. I'm an going to buy the books as well.

Die Geschichte vom Affenkönig
Gefällt mir sehr gut, Journey to the West is ein sehr beliebtes chinesisches Märchen aus dem 16.Jh, hier neu übersetzt und auf eine Stunde gekürzt, für Kinder (?) oder jung gebliebene Erwachsene. Die Sprecherin macht ihre Sache in meinen Augen sehr gut, werde mir auch die anderen Geschichten von ihr holen.
