Description

Running out of time.

Captain Jamie Callahan is frustrated with his team constantly being at the mercy of the enemy in order to further the MDF’s goals. To make matters worse, his father’s political campaign is ramping up, and Jamie’s every move is being watched by the media. He is acutely aware of all the eyes trained on him, his team, and Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan in particular. Meanwhile, Kyle would give anything to stay in the shadows, but he refuses to leave Jamie’s side, no matter the scrutiny. Staying out of the spotlight becomes impossible when their families are threatened and vital choices about their future together can no longer be ignored.

Desperate measures.

Staff Sergeant Alexei Dvorkin and Agent Sean Delaney are enjoying their time together as a couple when Sean’s past catches up with him. As Alpha Team’s long-running mission gets derailed in the worst way possible, Alexei discovers the enemy is playing for keeps, and neither he nor Sean are in any position to beat the odds and win the game. As for Sean, he’s worried that even if they make it out alive, Alexei may never forgive him for giving into the enemy’s demands.

Stand your ground.

Manipulation is the name of the game, but Jamie is done playing by everybody else’s rules. So is the rest of Alpha Team, because if there’s one thing Jamie’s team knows? It’s that they’re a family - and you don’t mess with family unless you want to get hurt.

In the Blood is a 107k-word steamy gay sci-fi military romance with a HFN ending that skirts HEA. There is military violence and torture within the story that may not be suitable for everyone, so please listen with caution. There are also explicit intimate scenes that are not suitable for listeners under the age of 18. This is a direct sequel to In the Shadows, and hearing the previous books in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

If it was possible to give more than 5 stars this would be the book I'd give it to. Brilliant!

The author tore my heart out & stomped all over it

Okay at one point Ms Turner I was going to tell you how much I totally disliked you, okay I could have called you some really nasty names, because of what you did. But then that ending, how can one stay mad at you after reading that. This was a majorly rough one. What a couple of our heroes went through was absolutely brutal. And the one behind it got what he deserved. Okay I would have liked to have tortured him for a long time before the big finale, but it was satisfying. This One has such major feels. My cat was laying next to me looking at me like, stupid human why is there water running down your face. Yes it was ugly crying. There were times that I couldn’t catch my breath. Jamie’s father, boy he needs some brains beaten into him. I hate when he is around. I loved that we spent quality one on one time with both of our couples, the sexy times were majorly hawt!!!! I cannot wait for then next book in the series. I also can’t wait for the fraternization to be changed so they can be seen out together. They deserve it. If you have read the first three books in the series yet, stop don’t read this one. They need to be read in order. Well done Ms Turner, keep up the amazing job!

OMG the bad things that happened re-tore me up. Greg Boudreaux did an absolutely amazing job narrating this book.

Heartbreaking!

I love Hailey Turner's Metahuman Files series so much! This book focuses on Kyle and Jamie's continued need to pretend that they are only pretending to be together. What a complicated mess! Despite the lies they have to tell, their bond and complete trust in each other is unshakeable.
Then there is one of my favorite couples ever - Sean and Alexei. These two go through absolute horror in this book, and it's impossible not to cringe and cry for them. I expect to see these two dealing with their trauma for quite a while.
The action is as crazy and chaotic as expected. Alpha Team's dedication and devotion to each other is as strong as ever. The bad guys who make appearances are evil to the core. And the love between our heroes in each couple is beautiful, sexy, and unbreakable.
The narrator's performance here is great, as always, though there were a couple of brief moments when Alexei lost his accent. With this large cast of characters, that is a very minor transgression. Overall, Mr. Boudreaux is amazing with his ability to give each man, woman, and child a strong and individual voice. The emotion in his voice is completely believable.
This audiobook combines an awesome story and amazing performance. Of course I recommend it, along with the entire series.

Oh boy... This one was hard for me

I love this series but this book was by far the hardest for me to listen to. I will warn you now, if physical and psychological torture is a trigger for you, you probably might want to skip certain parts of this. I had to stop and start those sections myself because it was written and acted very well...
This was a very brutal book but I still give it a whopping 5/5, because it was AMAZING. I can't wait for the next book to come out and part of me hopes the books in between the main ones will get done.

An Emotional Rollercoaster Of A Book!

This is the fourth book in The Metahuman Files Series. An enthralling book with amazing writing. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. It also stays true to the previous books plots and characters. I found the story and characters captivating. The characters were well developed and thought out. Jamie, Kyle, Alexei and Sean are the MC’s of this book. This is extremely well written for focusing on 2 couples instead of one. There are also very strong secondary characters. There was humor, Russians, criminals, a precog, politics, terrorists, missions, Metahumans, kidnappings, torture, friends and family, empaths, bombs, death, action, sex, military and so much more in this book.

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. The author lures you in like a cute little puppy and then attacks you like a 200 lbs. rabid dog that shatters your favorite crystal vase and then tries get someone to glue it back together, so you don’t notice. Another reader writes that the author is a “brilliantly sadistic woman who makes Satan look like a cute, cuddly, fluffy bunny” which I totally agree with. I suggest that you read with tissues, chocolate and your favorite comfort item. A warning there are 3 chapters that contains torture. These are not full chapters of it and these sections can be skipped, and you can still understand and enjoy the book. The first 2 start in the middle of the chapter and stop at the end of the chapter. The third section starts and the beginning of the chapter and stops in the middle. These sections are obvious so don’t worry about where they are so you can choose. But this book is worth reading regardless of which way you choose to go. Yes, it will tear your heart out, but it also puts it back and you just go WOW! Having said all this it is a book that you don’t want to miss reading.

The narration as always by this narrator was great. He does such a great job with the highs and lows with emotion so that the narration isn’t monotone. He is great about maintaining the different voices from book to book in a series. I did feel a bit bad for in this book because he couldn’t skip the torture sections. (I did read them the first time I read the book).

Here is a quote from the book, “Considering how close Phaedra had grown to Sean throughout her rescue and short time on base, and through him, Alexei, Phaedra had been more than willing to live with the Dvorkins. She’d lost her entire family through Valerie’s sadistic experiments; any distant relatives had been told she’d died for security purposes. DNA identification was still ongoing for a good number of the dead found buried on Declan’s ranch in mass graves, so it was easy to add her supposed death in with everyone else’s. The MDF had created and filed a new, legal identity for her, and despite her young age, Phaedra know how important it was to keep secrets. Trauma would do that to a person.”. There is so much more but you will need to read the book which I can highly recommend. The series is one of the best that I have read. Oh, and by the way I need book #5 NOW!!! I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Well performed exciting story

I love Sean's heroic save and have read (I also own the book) that segment more than once. I did have to skip to the end in the Kindle version to verify it comes out alright since Sean and Alexie's situation was so dire, it does. Phew.

Greg Boudreaux, also known as Greg Tremblay, does a superb performance. He is one of my favorite readers.

Love this Series

I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review. I have greatly loved listening to all the books in this series so far. I'm glad to hear that Killien can no longer hurt Sean. I didn't like hearing the graphic torture that Sean and Alexei went through at the hands of Killien it really made me cringe as I could picture what was being done like I was in the room. Glad I wasn't though. After they are rescued it takes Sean awhile to talk again and to come with terms that Alexei isn't mad at him nor blames him for what happened to him. Can't wait to hear book 5 in this Series. It's an amazing series so far.

Accurate Title......

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. The world building is wonderful and the story is never dull. This particular installation was probably one of the hardest to listen to as it does get rather brutal in some areas but it fit into the story line. The author does an excellent job at describing the scenes (sometimes more graphically than others) and you are able to imagine the world these men are trying to survive, all the obstacles they are facing, and all of the brutality they are up against....And believe me, there is definitely some brutality in this one.... I love the fact that this team is more of a family than just a military team that works together and they have each other's backs in the field and out of the field. I was glad to see Jaime stand up to his father even more and the relationship between him and Kyle grew even stronger. Also, Kyle is my new hero, you will understand after listening. My heart absolutely broke for Alexi and Sean and for a minute I thought I was going to have to hunt the author down but, alas, it didn't come to that and I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds for them. This book was less of the romance and more of the ongoing battles that this team is fighting, sort of like continuing to watch a series on television. We got to see both of the main relationships but the action is this one was the main focus. Greg Boudreaux does an excellent job with the narration keeping the voices distinct and the emotions on the surface.
