Description
Someone's getting married. Someone's getting murdered.
In a dark, dark wood
Nora hasn't seen Clare for 10 years. Not since Nora walked out of school one day and never went back.
There was a dark, dark house
Until, out of the blue, an invitation to Clare’s hen do arrives. Is this a chance for Nora to finally put her past behind her?
And in the dark, dark house, there was a dark, dark room
But something goes wrong. Very wrong.
And in the dark, dark room....
Some things can’t stay secret forever.

Good read
The storyline makes for a page-turner, because you want to know. It's wonderfully read by Imogen Church. It is a little far-fetched at times, but still very readable.

Excellent performance.
Very engaging. Imogen Church did a wonderful job reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a who-done-it with an unreliable narrator.

Good narration, lame story
If she would have settled the story after the characters university, lets say this happened 5,6 years after that, it would totally made sense, but a girl hung up on a relationship of her teens that ended more than 10 years ago its basically lame and then the rest of the story made no sense at all. I finished bc I was waiting for it to get good. Darn waste of time. The narration was good though.

A few thrilling moments, strains belief
I finished this, and enjoyed it while listening, but I felt that it was overall very disappointing. The climax is just silly, some of the characters are quite annoying. And their motivations are not believable. The performance is good, but otherwise, do not recommend.

Starts weak but gets better
Narrator is very good and easy to listen to.
Story is a classic whodunit. Number of people involved is very limited, but despite all the comments about how it is obvious who is the murderer, I couldn't decide between three suspects until the very end. Therefore, I must say that the story is ok too. Just do not expect any real depth there, it is not that kind of book.
I've seen comments that it is really unbeliveable that a person would attend a hen party of a friend that she hasn't seen for 10 years or so. Guess that is true, but then, to be honest, Nora is kind of weird. I admit I did not care much about the story in the beginning, it seemed to me that the author doesn't really know where she wants to go with the plot. But it gets better after a while, so do not necessarily give up if you do not like first chapters.

Very disappointing book with good narrator
The book starts in a promising way. The narrator has a soothing voice without loosing necessary tension, but as the story advances it becomes predictable making the "reveal" at the end not very surprising. The writing seems to be unprorpously repetitive, giving a monotonous tone through out. When the climax arrived, i was left hoping that the "reveal" had more meaning, more depth. The motives of the characters were unbelievable and frankly stupid, and they were all very one dimensional.

Amazing Narration !
This book is okay. The story is perfectly decent and has good moments of ‘mystery’. At some point I understand what the narrator went through and how hard it can be to let go of someone we loved. HOWEVER the real reason I would recommend this book is for the amazing narration work by Imogen Church. She made this book a thousand times better and much more interesting than what I’m sure it actually is. So 5 stars to her !

Couldn’t stop listening
This is not the sort of book I would normally listen to or read - it was recommended by a friend
But I’m glad I did
A murder mystery story with plenty of twists and turns that keeps you guessing almost to the end
A story of vengeance and secrets and plotting
I highly recommend it

Good but predictable

Thrilling story and best narrator ever!
The thrilling and plausible story by Ruth Ware once started you cannot stop again. But combined with the brilliant narrator Imogen Church it feels like beeing part of this story, just as
beeing among Nora, Nina and Co. I never listened to a better narrator!

God but not very thrilling
Good but not as gripping as „turn of the key“. It was predictable in the end. Still the story wasn‘t bad.

Mystery by the book
I want to start out with the things i liked about this book. The writing of the characters and the descriptions of locations were really well done. It was easy to keep track of who is who, the amazing reader helped distinquish them further as well. It was also easy to imagine where everything was going on, because the locations were well described. I liked the characters, they had interesting personalities and i liked reading their dialogue and interactions. The setup for the story was great as well and i was genuinely tense and interested to continue. But from the middle or slightly later on, the entire solution of the mystery became so painfully obvious that it made some of the chapters rather frustrating, because even the protagonist was making mistakes that seemed uncharacteristically stupid. I think the author is talented and i hope she will write more stories with tighter mysteries than this one. Because if you have some grasp on this genre, it is almost like reading a manual. The killer is introduced early on. The killer is hinted at. The killer is always excluded from speculations because of a simple alibi or other reasons why they could never have done it etc.
I would definitely recommend this book to people whp are newer to mystery as a genre though.

Spannend aber doch vorhersehbar
Gut geschrieben und toll gelesen. Ab einem gewissen Punkt aber doch vorhersehbar. Trotzdem empfehlenswert. 4 Sterne
