    Description

Anthony Hetheridge, ninth baron of Wellegrave, chief superintendent for New Scotland Yard, never married - no children, no pets, no hobbies, and not even an interesting vice - will turn 60 in three weeks. With the exception of his chosen career, too sordid for his blue-blooded family to condone, his life has been safe and predictable. But then he meets Detective Sergeant Kate Wakefield - beautiful, willful, and nearly half his age.

When Hetheridge saves the outspoken, impetuous young detective from getting the sack, siding with her against Scotland Yard's powerful male hierarchy, his cold, elegantly balanced world spins out of control. Summoned to London's fashionable Belgravia to investigate the brutal murder of a financier, Hetheridge must catch the killer while coping with his growing attraction to Kate, the reappearance of an old flame, and the secret that emerges from his own past.

Fall in love with Ice Blue, book one in the New York Times best-selling Lord & Lady Hetheridge mystery series.

    English and Exemplary

Would you consider the audio edition of Ice Blue to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version but I thoroughly enjoyed the audio with Davies and his accent. He did a great job of differentiating between characters and pacing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ice Blue?

When Hetheridge shows Kate his fencing room and they spar, it was so smooth that they both were just play fighting. The approach to this scene was really well written.

What about Matthew Lloyd Davies’s performance did you like?

Matthew was able to portray each main character with a distinction that fit their role. His accents were spot on and his interpretation was perfect.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This was a fun mystery that had some surprising twists. I really want to know these characters more and bought the next book - looking forward to the character developement.

    Meh...

I got this audio book for $1.99 and it was worth every penny. A decent plot, the narrator was good, the class distinctions were set and the characters believable. But, and this is a big but, I did not buy the romance, such as it was. This is a set up for a series, introducing the players and backgrounds. As a devotee of Georgette Heyer, I like sparkle, wit and chemistry in my romances. I found little in this book. An older, titled man and a "council flat" feisty Londoner. Nope. Even the author admitted the unlikelihood. I may read or listen to the others in this series because of the plotting, but if you want romance, go elsewhere.

    No more "Blue"

My favorite genre of fiction is British mysteries but this series is not one I care to follow. I just felt there were too many unbelivable situations included, especially in terms of police proceedure. Also, the relationship between the two main characters did not feel authentic to me.
I did not care for the narration when different voices were portrayed.

    Outstanding Series

    Any additional comments?

I have read the entire series in print form and am now listening to them on Audible. This is the first. The narrative, as before, drew me in and I enjoyed it very much. I had a more difficult time with the narrator, especially the voice characterization of Kate. That said, I highly recommend this book and the series.

An amusing and well written mystery

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This was a good mystery that kept me guessing. The interaction between the characters and the dialog was amusing and well written. I bought the first three books of the series a while ago but decided to wait for the Audible recording to be released when I heard a sample of the narrator...and I am very glad that I did. He does a very good job of all of the diverse characters.

    Any additional comments?

This author is very creative about finding characters who are just a bit different and making them endearing. I have already started listening to the second book in the series.

    Oh dear...

I wish I had not purchased this book. I can think of books the narrator might read brilliantly, but not this one. His attempts at doing a woman's voice are cringe-worthy. The plot is dreadful. I felt I was listening to a strange copycat version of the Inspector Lynley mystery series (also an older titled detective paired with younger, scruffy sidekick). Caveat emptor. I did think this might have been a bit improved by reading it, rather than listening. Hopefully, there are others who will like it better than I did--just my listening taste.

    Good Story, Terrible Narrator

I enjoyed this mash-up of a British police procedural and romance, but the terrible narration almost spoiled it for me. The narrator did a good job generally - and with Tony's part - but his interpretation of Kate was completely unacceptable. I was first thinking he made her sound like a fishwife, but that's not exactly true. It's more like an old-school British comedian doing an intentionally bad imitation of a woman. Someone like Benny Hill or the Monty Python crew being intentionally bad. Yeah, actually that bad.

I want to continue with the series, but will probably do so with the Kindle edition.

    Baby blues?

I like these books they are fast and cute! A bit of British comedy in a mystery. My only complaint again is I really dislike the voice of Kate! It is harsh and more like what I would expect from an "old street seller" , sorry. Just grates on my ears. I bought the set so here comes next book. * )

    Terrible!

What did you like about this audiobook?

Nothing. Romance novel pretending to be a crime novel.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I have never been interested in romance novels and this book is exactly that; a 19th century Lord and maidservant romance twisted into what is suppose to pass as a crime novel. It doesn't.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

The heroine's voice was so annoying and strident that I simply couldn't finish listening to the book. Certainly didn't conjure up the image of an attractive young woman!

Do you have any additional comments?

I found this novel completely unbelievable with a story-line that does not move with the times.
