    Description

Get ready to question everything you've been told about charity and to find out how you can truly succeed at making the world a better place.

Many of us donate to charitable causes, and millions more work or volunteer for nonprofit organizations. Yet virtually none of us has been taught what it means to succeed at doing good, let alone how to do so. In short we've never been encouraged to treat charity with the seriousness and rigor it deserves.

How to Be Great at Doing Good is a complacency-shattering guidebook for anyone who wants to actually change the world, whether as a donor, a volunteer, or a nonprofit staffer. Drawing on eye-opening studies in psychology and human behavior, surprising interviews with philanthropy professionals, and the author's 15 years of experience founding and managing top-rated nonprofits, this book is an essential listen for anyone who wants to do more good with their time and money.

    • Find out how Bill Gates and a team of MIT grads are saving thousands of lives by applying business principles to charity work - and how we can too
    • Peer inside our brains as we donate, and discover how the same chemical forces that make us crave junk food and sex can steer us toward bad charity decisions
    • See why following our passion and doing what we're good at can actually doom our efforts to improve the world
    • Learn how two seemingly identical charities can have jaw-dropping differences in impact, and find out how to pick the best one when donating

Sure to generate controversy among nonprofits and philanthropists who prefer business as usual, How to Be Great at Doing Good reveals that a more calculated, effective approach to charity work isn't just possible - it's absolutely necessary for those who want to succeed at changing the world.

    Informed Contribution > Emotional Charity

Enlightening to anyone interested in helping others! Great examples herein with money and efforts outcomes, comparisons, and how selfish we can ironically be when contributing to any charity or to anyone.

    Ready to think more critically!

A really enlightening book that has dramatically changed my perspective on the importance of analysis and research. Points are clearly made, great examples given and a clear message received throughout. Taking the time to measure things can have a huge difference on how much better we can make the world through our charity.

unfortunately, it is not about HOW to be great...

Gibt es irgendetwas, das Sie an diesem Hörbuch ändern würden?

I was really disappointed at some point and didn't even listen to the last 45 minutes: Nick Cooney strategically illustrates why it is important to choose wisely which charity you want to support with your money. but if you are already aware of that fact and are familiar to the concept of effective altruism you totally miss further guideline on how to be great at doing good in other apsects than donating.

Welche Figur hat James Fouhey Ihrer Meinung nach am besten interpretiert?

I personally don't like the voice of James Fouhey, although I like how clear and pointed he reads the book.

Wenn dieses Hörbuch ein Film wäre, würden Sie ihn sich ansehen wollen?

    no

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

if you are currently asking yourself how to spend your money wisely or which charity you want to support with your donations this book might be a great guidance. apart from that it doesn't really demonstrate how to be great at dooing good.
