An enzyme that will dramatically prolong life has been discovered 2,000 feet down in the North Atlantic, in an area known as "Lost City". But why are the people attempting to harvest it getting killed? Why are the scientists in a remote Greek laboratory disappearing one by one? To Kurt Austin, leader of NUMA's Special Assignments Team, and his colleague Joe Zavala, it's clear they have their work cut out for them, but it may be even bigger than they think.

Lithuanian immigrant Jurgis Rudkus has invested every last hope in achieving a prosperous new start in a new country. But the only job open to him - in the appalling stockyards of Packingtown, Chicago - will become a brutal, dispiriting, and dangerous challenge to his pride, his family, his life, and his faith in the American Dream. A scathing condemnation of capitalism, corporate corruption, and the exploitation of the working class, The Jungle was a sensation when first published. It stands as one the greatest and most influential proletarian novels ever written.

Description
Juan Cabrillo's first adventure with the Oregon - a state-of-the-art spy ship disguised as a nondescript lumber hauler - takes him and his crew into dangerous waters as they try to put Tibet back in the hands of the Dalai Lama by striking a deal with the Russians and the Chinese.
Cabrillo's gambling chip is a golden Buddha containing records of vast oil reserves in the disputed land. But first he'll have to locate - and steal - the all-important artifact. And there are certain people who would do anything in their power to see him fail....

Horrible Narrative
Arguably the worst accents I've heard, would have been better if he read it monotone.
Bring back Scott Brick!

bad accents, distracting production, horrible read
I and used to good stories from Mr Cussler. The poor read and distracting production diminished the book to the point that I had to pause and take a break from the whole thing. What a way to wreck a decent book.

Horrible narration!
Is this the main actor from the movie Fargo? Having a very tough time continuing this book. The story might be ok, but J Charles ruined it!

Mr Charles is awful
Scott Brick who does 90% of the Cussler books is ALWAYS exceptional and tends to spoil the listener with his professional take on the author's work.

narrator reading is terrible.....
The accent for Juan was so bad he went from the cool captain to the uninspired sailor. The crew's voices a major let down. Scott Brick as reader it would be a different review!!!

Sorry I wasted a credit on it
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I have listened to all of the Oregon series. Loved them all. I enjoy Scott Brick
but J Charles just can't do accents.Sorry I wasted a credit on it. I would not recommend it to anyone
If you’ve listened to books by Clive Cussler and Craig Dirgo before, how does this one compare?
The story was ok but J Charle's was terrible
Would you be willing to try another one of J. Charles’s performances?
no
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
no
Any additional comments?
Was looking forward to getting book 2 but not now

Horrible Reader!
How could the performance have been better?
J. Charles is a horrible reader. I will never buy another book that he reads. The accents are bad and in some cases non existent . His Texas accent is over-the-top comical. He is nowhere near in class to Scott Brick who reads the later books in the series.
His reading is a disgrace. So bad that I cannot stand to finish the book. He also pronounced buoy's as boys.

Not up to par
Not up to Cussler's usual standard. Ok if you're looking for background noise on long trip. But not worth a whole credit.

Another super book from Cussler
There are not enough superlatives to describe this book. Cussler's skill at developing the story and the characters pulls you into their world. J. Charles as the narrator out did himself once again to bring another Cussler book to life. You felt like you were there living the adventure. Can't wait for the another one to come out.
