Description
A Stonewall Honor Book * A Time Magazine Best YA Book of All Time
From Stonewall and Lambda Award-winning author Kacen Callender comes a revelatory YA novel about a transgender teen grappling with identity and self-discovery while falling in love for the first time.
Felix Love has never been in love — and, yes, he’s painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it’s like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What’s worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he’s one marginalization too many — Black, queer, and transgender — to ever get his own happily-ever-after.
When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages — after publicly posting Felix’s deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned — Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn’t count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi-love triangle....
But as he navigates his complicated feelings, Felix begins a journey of questioning and self-discovery that helps redefine his most important relationship: how he feels about himself.
Felix Ever After is an honest and layered story about identity, falling in love, and recognizing the love you deserve.
"Felix is attending an ultracompetitive arts summer program to have a better shot at a full scholarship to Brown when someone posts Felix’s dead name beside photos of him, pre-transition, in the school’s lobby. Felix’s plot to get revenge throws him onto the path of love and self-discovery." (Publishers Weekly, "An Anti-Racist Children's and YA Reading List")

Easily my favourite book of the year so far
Look, I read a lot. I read so much it's actually embarrassing. Being part of the LGBTQI community and working and writing about the community, this book reminded me why I do the things I do. I always gravitate towards queer books and this one was everything I needed right now: it's beautifully written, with beautiful characters; it handles all the hard topics with such care and love it just made my heart burst; there's friendship, and first loves, and self acceptance. I fell in love with Felix. Felix is all of us, with the questions about our identities and who are and what do we want. Felix is a good reminder that, even though our struggles look different, what we should and must do is protect and love each other.
Please buy this book, support this author, spread the message of love and self-love and acceptance. I will buy the physical copy and tell everyone I know how Felix came into my life and left me speechless and breathless and just FEELING ALL THE FEELS, OKAY?
The narrator was so on point and I def recommend. I know how narrators can make the experience so much better and I really loved this one.
5/5 will read again

Cliche Ever After (But Still Worth a Listen!)
Small spoilers!
This really is a great coming of age type story.
Transgender Felix deals with his own personal identify crisis, while being outed with his birth identity to his whole school, all while desperately wanting to fall in love... never realizing his best friend is secretly pining for him.
The two friends do weird things. Like snuggle up in bed together. And I'm not talking about sharing a bed with your bestie. This is full on tangle of limbs, we can't even tell who the big spoon or the little spoon is anymore type of snuggling. This is when they are just "friends".
I don't know. The idea of that friendship turning in to something more is what bothered me most about the book. Too cliche for a story that really had a promising plot.
Definitely worth a listen, extremely well narrated by Logan Rozos, and well written as well. The audio production had a few errors that I noticed of lines being repeated. Now the author wrote many lines in the book to be repeated, but the production had them repeated in a way that was clearly not the intent. That took me out of the story at those moments because I had to rewind to see if I had just stopped paying attention or there really were errors!

Phenomenal
A queer story I have needed for a long time. A must read. Not only is this a love story that pulls at every single emotion it is educational. Many LGBTQ+ individuals should read and learn from this book. It encapsulates the diversity of this world and the divisiveness even within like communities. There is so much love in this story it almost hurts, in a good way. I do hope to see these characters again one day in a sequel.

Felix, you stole my heart!
This story and these characters, are everything and more than I’d hope they’d be. Addressing so many current issues in a natural way that rings true to the story he’s telling, Kacen has an enormous talent. I could write a ten page essay about this book and still feel like there was more to discuss and appreciate. This was an instant classic for me and I want to assign this book to every person on earth as required reading. Felix is a force and a delight. I wish I could have had this book when I was younger. I'm so glad that the younger generations have it now. If you haven't read this one yet. Get you hands on a copy and read this book, you won't regret it.

Amazing, empowering story!
I absolutely loved the story. The narrator was amazing, the way they managed to bring forward all the emotions that Felix was experiencing, the different tones and voices they did for all the characters. This is exactly was an audiobook is supposed to be like. I'm really glad it was read by them. ❤

Worth a Listen!
Being queer/transmasc, I've never felt more seen, more understood, than I did when reading this book. Every chapter felt deeply personal and scarily relevant.
It took me a few chapters to get hooked, but once I was I could NOT put this down. The narrator (Logan Rozos) is fantastic and wonderful to listen to; the topics are raw, emotional and poignant, especially to a reader who can relate; and the plot pulls you in and keeps you guessing until the very end.
I can't recommend this book enough, for trans readers, black readers, queer readers, teens, adults, those with trans loved ones, and literally everyone else. It's a great peek into the mind and struggles of being a Black, queer, and trans teen, written by a Black, queer, and trans author.
5/5, would recommend!

What a beautifully written story
Felix is a great character, he's cute and sweet and even though he knows he's transgender and has been living that way for a few years, something still isn't right. While he's questioning his identity, someone at school posts pictures of him before transition and dead names him. Then they start sending Felix horrible messages that tear him down. I cried for Felix when he read those messages and started to believe that maybe he wasn't worthy of love and affection. No one should feel like that ever.
The sort of love triangle was so well done and I honestly wasn't sure who Felix would end up with. In the end, he made the best choice for him and I loved watching him sort out his feelings while doing some soul searching and realizing he matters and loves himself.
This is so well written and I was fully invested in the story from the beginning. I think many readers will identify with Felix's struggle to realize exactly who his is and surround himself with people who will accept him.

Yes! Just yes!
Gender identity, sexuality, and love! Someone said “Felix Ever After” shows that the love you deserve is inside AND out. I couldn’t agree with that more. This book helps to remind us of the importance of appreciating your loved ones, respect, communication, self love, internal strength, and being open to new things.
We don’t need outside approval. All we need is approval of self! This should be a book that is a part of school curricula (formal plural of curriculum lol) everywhere!
I found the main character, setting, tone, and point of view SUPER relatable. I enjoyed the modern city life and song references. Felix and Ezra feel like they could’ve been my friends in high school. Everyone could learn something from this book. Much love!
