THE INSIDE STORY ON PRESIDENT TRUMP, AS ONLY BOB WOODWARD CAN TELL IT

With authoritative reporting honed through nine presidencies, author Bob Woodward reveals in unprecedented detail the harrowing life inside President Donald Trump’s White House and precisely how he makes decisions on major foreign and domestic policies.

Fear is the most intimate portrait of a sitting president ever published during the president’s first years in office. The focus is on the explosive debates and the decision-making in the Oval Office, the Situation Room, Air Force One and the White House residence.

Woodward draws from hundreds of hours of interviews with firsthand sources, meeting notes, personal diaries, files and documents. Often with day-by-day details, dialogue and documentation, Fear tracks key foreign issues from North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, the Middle East, NATO, China and Russia. It reports in-depth on Trump’s key domestic issues particularly trade and tariff disputes, immigration, tax legislation, the Paris Climate Accord and the racial violence in Charlottesville in 2017.

Fear presents vivid details of the negotiations between Trump’s attorneys and Robert Mueller, the special counsel in the Russia investigation, laying out for the first time the meeting-by-meeting discussions and strategies. It discloses how senior Trump White House officials joined together to steal draft orders from the president’s Oval Office desk so he would not issue directives that would jeopardize top secret intelligence operations.

“It was no less than an administrative coup d’état,” Woodward writes, “a nervous breakdown of the executive power of the most powerful country in the world.”

"With the steely, measured delivery of a seasoned newscaster, Robert Petkoff narrates an audiobook that truly lives up to its title. As he has done for decades since breaking the Watergate scandal, reporter Bob Woodward dissects the White House, in this case since the election of Donald Trump. The results are frightening. Using hundreds of hours of interviews with White House sources, notes from meetings, journals, and other available information, Woodward describes Trump as a man who refuses to read research before making major decisions and ignores and belittles the advice of experts, instead running the Oval Office on instinct and rash decisions. Woodward and Petkoff humanize other key members of the White House including embittered Chief of Staff John Kelly, erratic former Chief of Staff Steve Bannon, occasional voice of reason Ivanka Trump, and a host of others. It's a fascinating, often horrifying work of journalism."

This is the book for making the most close to reality impression about Trump's presidency. It is very hard to think that it is not true with all detailed events (time, places, actors). I started the book having in mind all the documentaries, facts, events, declarations (by himself and by others) I saw about his entire life. Most of them with a negative conclusion. It confirms the enormous ego, the lack of knowledge necessary for the post, but also a sense for manipulating people, a certain naivety, a lack of empathy and a pathological liar personality determined by narcissism.

    Objective, neutral, detailed

Excellent book describing what is happening inside of the White House. It reveals in details how Donald Trump manages the country & his relations with his staff. A must read or listen title to understand a bit better the climate surrounding the president.
Though if you feel concern by the world you live in, it might scare you a bit ... But as one say, better a harsh reality than a good lie.

    Excellent book, frightening reality

This book gives an outstanding inside into the working of what must be the most dysfunctional White House in recent history, possibly in the last 150 years.
It gives also the reader/listener (Audio version) a very good account how the campaign was rescued by the brilliant, yet evil, mind of Steve Bannon. The book shows that the Republicans did manage (and manipulate) the elector machinery much better than the Democrats in the 2016 elections. Pushing the right 'fear' buttons and managing to deflect the dirt that was uncovered before the election on the then-candidate Trump.
With the very recent developments, it will be like most books of this genre a work in progress. Relatively is written about the Manafort presence, except for the abrupt departure. Those departures are part of the modus operandi of this White House regime that appears to have been hijacked by a little elite inside and that may mitigate the fear that all should have, knowing what we know and what we discover reading this book.

    More than what we know

Interesting and, in an effed-up way, enjoyable read. Woodward managed to paint a picture of DJT that seems believable in its complexity. In some cases, his account made me feel almost empathetic towards the president... he's just another complex human being, like all of us - he just should not be president. But who's fault is that?

Greatly written account of his first year in the White House. Well recommended.

Interesting and balanced account of DT's 1st year
