Description

Finally a go-to guide to creating and publishing the kind of content that will make your business thrive. Everybody Writes is a go-to guide to attracting and retaining customers through stellar online communication, because in our content-driven world, every one of us is, in fact, a writer. If you have a web site, you are a publisher. If you are on social media, you are in marketing. And that means that we are all relying on our words to carry our marketing messages. We are all writers. Yeah, but who cares about writing anymore? In a time-challenged world dominated by short and snappy, by click-bait headlines and Twitter streams and Instagram feeds and gifs and video and Snapchat and YOLO and LOL and #tbt... does the idea of focusing on writing seem pedantic and ordinary? Actually, writing matters more now, not less. Our online words are our currency; they tell our customers who we are. Our writing can make us look smart or it can make us look stupid. It can make us seem fun, or warm, or competent, or trustworthy. But it can also make us seem humdrum or discombobulated or flat-out boring. That means you've got to choose words well, and write with economy and the style and honest empathy for your customers. And it means you put a new value on an often-overlooked skill in content marketing: How to write, and how to tell a true story really, really well. So being able to communicate well in writing isn't just nice; it's necessity. And it's also the oft-overlooked cornerstone of nearly all our content marketing.

In Everybody Writes, top marketing veteran Ann Handley gives expert guidance and insight into the process and strategy of content creation, production and publishing, with actionable how-to advice designed to get results. These lessons and rules apply across all of your online assets - like web pages, home page, landing pages, blogs, email, marketing offers, and on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media.

Great writing, good story, TERRIBLE narration

What disappointed you about Everybody Writes?

The information is GREAT, but the gal who narrates it terrible. She over-enunciates, reads super slowly and has zero personality. I highly recommend you just buy the hard copy.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Cynthia Barrett?

Perhaps the author, who seems to have a great personality.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Like I said, the info is great, but listening to the narrator made me want to rip my eyeballs out...or just fall asleep.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Non-shit lady that can read

What could Ann Handley have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Non-shit lady that can read

What didn’t you like about Cynthia Barrett’s performance?

Shit lady that can't read

What character would you cut from Everybody Writes?

The shit lady who can't read

Any additional comments?

Seriously awful voiceover ruined it for me

Would you try another book from Ann Handley and/or Cynthia Barrett?

Unsure at this point

What could Ann Handley have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Used a better voice talent, as well as getting to the point much quicker instead of repeating over and over about what she WILL be covering later in the book. Seems ironic given the topic of the book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Cynthia Barrett’s performances?

No way

So much data I'll have to buy the hardcopy

Ann Handley's book is a major reference guide to online communication and content management. The only problem is that she is constantly tossing out cites or references that I didn't have time to write down. This really is a root point from which your understanding and knowledge in this field can grow.

Books like this can live or die on the abilities of the reader. Cynthia Barrett is the reader you would want if you were to pen a book like this. The sparkle in her voice keeps you uplifted and interested through out the book, hers is a very special talent. After listening to her read this book, I think she could read the NY phone book or chant the Bronx Yellow Pages and have you singing along with her.

Dreadful voiceover spoilt this excellent book

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Women into unicats and unicorns

What do you think your next listen will be?

Steven Pressfield, his mellow voice is soothing

How could the performance have been better?

Different person doing the voiceover would have made a huge difference.

I lasted less than 5 mins of the breathless screechy drone, it was like nails on a chalk board. The narrator was sadly the worst I've come across on Audible -- so disappointed! Spoilt the experience and anticipation completely.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I'm going to buy the book and read that instead, having glimpsed the book in a store it looked a pretty good read and have followed Ann Handley's excellent blog for a while.

Any additional comments?

Read the book and skip this audio recording. Was disappointed my money was wasted :(

Narration of the books really ruins it

Any additional comments?

The narration of this book is really unpleasant. I would way rather listen to a book written by the narrator anyday. The performance of this book is so sterile and fake sounding. There is no life in the reading what so ever. I'm not sure weather its a good book or not because I could not get past the narration.

O k, for office people, maybe

This was extremely disappointing. Boreing and the narration was flat. I could even finish it.

A Living, Speaking Contradiction

I wish I had just read this. I probably would have loved it. From what I could gather, the content in this book seemed very good. There was solid advice on writing and on developing one's own unique voice and style, letting that show through in the writing.

Yet, I was left doubting the message. Was it sincere?

Why wouldn't it be? I mean, it has to be, doesn't it? Why would the author make it all up? I don't think she would, but I'm not convinced.

The thing that would help me have a clearer picture would be to know whether the author had a say in the choice of the narration. If she did, she clearly didn't think it through, leaving me to think all she had to say about style and personality were just words. If she didn't have any say in the matter, whoever did make the decision clearly didn't read or understand the book well. The narrator certainly didn't seem to understand what she was narrating.

Just by the words I was hearing, the author seems to have an enjoyable casual style, and I think her personality came through in the language used.

Unfortunately, it wasn't enjoyable. at all . A poor narration is unfortunate with most books, however with this book the narration was an absolute contradiction of the message of the book itself. The author encourages letting one's style and personality flow through their writing but the narrator spoke in a very formal style that was a complete antithesis of the personality that seemed to be behind the words of the book. This contradiction in style made it difficult to pull the value out of what I was listening to, instead I'm straining to hear the words and try to identify the humor and the personality of the author in spite of the very stilted and formal performance. I finally gave up.

There is a bit of irony in that listening to this did seem to illustrate just how important one's personality and style are to creating an enjoyable reading experience. Unfortunately the illustration was more about how not to do it. If the narration style even remotely matched the writing style this could have been bearable.

Amazing Book!

If you could sum up Everybody Writes in three words, what would they be?

Perfect, amazing, and powerful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Wow--the author is a genius! ! The content of this writing book is invaluable and because of the clarity that shines throughout the pages, this manuscript packs a powerful punch. "Everybody Writes" provides everything you need to advance your writing skills--and packaged beautifully, with a bright red cherry on top!

Any additional comments?

Ann Handley is an amazingly talented and skilled author. If you're on a journey of learning how to write, "Everyone Writes", this eye-opening book is for you! Because of this amazingly perfect and well-written manuscript, my perception towards writing has evolved. Gone are the days when I had nowhere to turn for guidance with writing. And, never again will I mirror the sad and broken eagle that lost its wings, way and voice--with practice, I will confidently soar in writing and spread my wings. This writing book proves to be one of the best that I've read (and I've read tons of them).
