Description

Those who learn history can doom others to repeat it.

A new generation of humans has entered adulthood. Raised by robots, these freshly minted citizens of Earth struggle to fit into a society that has gotten by without them for a thousand years. Until Alex Truman shows them a new path.

Raised by Charlie7 and cloned from the original Charles Truman, Alex feels that it's his right to rule mankind. With the entirety of human history as his guide, he learns from the successes and failures of the Human Era and puts them to use against a society that's completely unprepared to oppose him.

Who can stand up to this budding tyranny? Abby Fourteen asks that very same question and comes up with just one answer: her.

New character perspectives but still enjoyable!

I found this book just as enjoyable as the previous though I can see how some people may be disappointed at the switch to a new 'main' character focus. We don't see much from the original 'human' cast as the previous books and instead follow the perspectives from (mainly) two new characters (Abby and Alex). Despite this switch up (though it makes sense because of the passing of time) I still really enjoyed this listen and the story set in the world we've grown to know over the last 4 books.

Much like in the previous books, I thoroughly enjoyed the narration by Paul Michael Garcia and this book continues the excellent narration. I really liked the voicing of characters, pacing, and performance all around. No complaints!

Will the robots or the humans win out?

A great story about humanity being destroyed by aliens. Then, robots rebuilding the earth in anticipation of humanity being reborn. And after a thousand years robots recreate human life. Then the fun really begins.

A major change is in store

The first 10 chapters are composed of describing how the children come to be and how they develop. But then the rest of the story involves the attempt of the humans to define their own destiny in relationship to the robots. The two main characters are Abby and Alex. Abby is frustrated because she has not been able to accomplish what she felt she should. Alex is frustrated because he feels that the robots are preventing him from developing dark energy.

Alex sets out with a plan to gain control of the system to change it and allow human development as he wishes while Abby opposes him in an effort to keep the status quo. The interpersonal play is sometimes frustrating but you are always on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next.

The narration is exceptional and a pleasure to listen to.
