Description

This program includes a bonus prologue.

From number-one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson comes a special gift edition of Edgedancer, a short audiobook from the Stormlight Archive (previously published in Arcanum Unbounded).

Three years ago, Lift asked a goddess to stop her from growing older - a wish she believed was granted. Now, in Edgedancer, the barely teenage nascent Knight Radiant finds that time stands still for no one. Although the young Azish emperor granted her safe haven from an executioner she knows only as Darkness, court life is suffocating the free-spirited Lift, who can't help heading to Yeddaw when she hears the relentless Darkness is there hunting people like her with budding powers. The downtrodden in Yeddaw have no champion, and Lift knows she must seize this awesome responsibility.

Read this before Oathbringer

I know it is short and hard to spend a credit on a 5 hour book but definitely get this before oathbringer. It helps you remember stuff from the 2nd book and tells you what went on between he last book and Oathbringer

great book but

This story is in the Arcanum Unbound collection. I thought it was a new story based off the release date. A great listen and adds some information about the Stormlight series. I recommend the whole Arcanum collection, but if you only want to know about Stormlight this cuts right to the heart of it.

i wish the protagonist was more likeable

i liked this book, but the protagonist was almost written to be unlikeable. While in the end she is sympathetic, you spend 90% of the book feeling like she is the antagonist.

I say this as someone who recommends this book, but is warning future readers that you should only embark on this journey if you love the series and are patient.

Missing the lengthy prologue!

I haven't finished this, but fair warning: I purchased this book in both Kindle and Audible format. The audiobook is missing the 35 page prologue in its entirety. That's crazy.

I intended to listen to this on my drive home. Now I'm going to read the prologue prior to starting this.

Dare I Say... Awesome?

This novella follows Lift, the quirky preteen orphan who attempted to rob the Emperor's Palace in Words of Radiance. After Lift's miraculous display, she's smothered by attention from the viziers and scribes until she decides to run away. Her flight takes her to Yeddaw where she finds Darkness, the Shardbearer who almost took her life. When Lift learns he's on the trail of another fledgling Radiant, she has to discover their identity before Darkness does.

The audiobook doesn't contain Lift's original chapter from Words of Radiance, although the Kindle edition does. But if you're reading Edgedancer, you've probably already been introduced to Lift. She's a character you'll either find really annoying or really endearing. I personally loved the spunky girl, but at times still felt frustrated with her forced immaturity. Then her innate generosity and protective nature would shine through and I couldn't help cheering for her again.

This novella is important to read before Oathbringer. Think of it as Stormlight Archive 2.5. Sanderson shines again with the setting, a city carved by Shardbearers right out of the stone ground. He's able to create a new and original culture each time he introduces a city, with such vivid imagery I feel like I'm there myself. Lift's magic is fascinating, I can't wait to see what she does with it in the future. And Wyndle might be my new favorite spren, after Syl of course!

Kate Reading is... well she's Kate Reading. Professional, polished, and put me right there in the story. I'd highly recommend this read to fans of the Stormlight Archive, not just to complete the series, but because it's a really enjoyable read.

Most annoying character ever

Love the story hate the character. Honestly wanted Darkness to end her. Most all other characters in these books are amazing, Lyft is not one of them.

Could Have Skipped the First 18 (of 20) Chapters

I was disappointed with this book. Was looking forward to it tying into the Stormlight Archive. Here is a synopsis of the first 18 chapters: A bratty kid, who is a Knight Radiant, runs around creating chaos and eating other people's food, while avoiding growing up. The main character was simply put, annoying.

Skip it

Hated this book. Way too young and childish for me. The worst Sanderson story I've encountered yet.
