    Description

New York Times best-seller. Wall Street Journal best-seller. USA Today best-seller.

    Hunches, horse races, and heartbreak!

Ten years after Simone Payton broke his heart, all Roscoe Winston wants is a doughnut. He'd also like to forget her entirely, but that's never going to happen. Roscoe Winston remembers everything - every look, every word, every single unrequited second - and the last thing he needs is another memory of Simone.

Unfortunately, after one chance encounter, Simone keeps popping up everywhere he happens to be....

Ten years after Roscoe Winston dropped out of her life, all Simone Payton wants is to exploit him. She'd also like some answers from her former best friend about why he ghosted her, but if she never gets those answers, that's a-okay. Simone let go of the past a long time ago. Seriously, she has. She totally, totally has. She is definitely not still thinking about Roscoe. Nope. She's more than happy to forget he exists.

But first, she needs just one teeny-tiny favor....

Dr. Strange Beard is a full-length romantic comedy novel, can be listened to as a stand-alone, and is the fifth audiobook in the USA Today best-selling Winston Brothers series.

    Somewhat disappointed

Dr Strange Beard doesn’t live up to the previous Winston books or the knitting club books. The story is almost entirely about Simone. And her character wasn’t even well developed. Roscoe’s interest in animals and veterinary medicine were only mentioned in passing. I was hoping for more about Roscoe. There wasn’t much interaction with the other Winstons. The book felt like it was almost all Simone’s stream of consciousness. It’s not a bad book, just not as good as Ms Reid’s previous books.

    disapointed

I am a Reid fan but the heroine's character development was not compelling. She started out witty but unlikable, by turns thoughtless and self absorbed, moved on to a little cruel and demanding, and finished up with more self absorption. I had serious doubts about her maturity level for her profession. The hero felt complex and his growth had me, as well as the awesome supporting cast. The narration was true to the characters and made this book tolerable for me. Please don't set these spoiled girls take up too much room in such a great series.

    Disappointing

I love this series but this book was disappointing. I really did not like Simone or the voice for her. She made everyone sound super pitiful, especially Roscoe. There was nothing endearing about Simone's character and no chemistry between them. You never really figure out why Roscoe is so in love with her. She just seemed annoying to me. I will say I have loved all of the other books and characters and especially the male narrator!

Used to love this series. . .

I am not quite sure how writing can get worse over time but the last two books in this series just haven’t been great. The last one I couldn’t finish. This one I almost bailed on but pushed through. Chris Brinkley is an awesome narrator but Chloe Miller not so great. Not horrible but not good. I love these men which keeps me coming back. Not sure I will be able to listen to Billy’s story

    Too much Simone

I will preface this with an apology to Penny. I normally adore everything she puts out there but I could not connect with this one. I started reading the ebook until the audiobook became available. Now I'm left wondering if I would have enjoyed the story more if I had just read it. Chloe Miller's narration was AWFUL. She mispronounced words like hastily and tsunami. Did she even have a production editor? And don't even get me started on her so-called Tennessee accent. If Chris Brinkley had more narration time it would have been more enjoyable, in my opinion. His narration is always excellent.

I was intrigued the the Darrel storyline but I was also a little confused by the time jump. I feel like we missed so much, which I'm sure will be explained in the next few books. Or at least I hope so.

I can say without a doubt that I will not recommend the audio version of Dr. Strange Beard to my friends. I will certainly never listen to this audiobook again. I'll give the book a second try after I get over how disappointed I feel right now.

Not the best in this series

I’m a big fan of P. Reid but this long awaited story of Roscoe was anticlimactic. The chemistry between the two main character never melded together for me. The story is quite predictable. I kept hoping for a twist or something to make it interesting, but it ended just like I predicted within the first 3 chapters. Oh well. Can’t win them all. I’d still but P.R’s. books.

    Can’t!

I can’t even finish this book! I’ve loved all the Winston brothers books, but this was a waste of money! All of Penny Reid’s books have been AWESOME... EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE!

    Simone & Roscoe

I adore this story. Chris Brinkley, as usual rocked the narration and Chloe Miller was superb as Simone.

The only hiccup, having read the print version first, was that because Roscoe does a lot of memory flashbacks, especially in the beginning, it is difficult to keep track of that on audio. In print, those scenes are italicized. Even though I’m very familiar with the story, I still found myself getting lost a time or two when Roscoe was “flashing back.” I honestly have no idea what could have made it less confusing, but I found it distracting at the beginning.

Overall, however, this is a fantastic story, well read, and highly recommend.

The female narrator took me out of the story

I'm not sure if I like this book, I love Penny Reid's books typically but this I don't know because I found this hard to listen to, specifically the female narrator.

She has a sing song cadence that would cause sentences to trail up or down, and each sentence was said with weight and imparted with important emphasis. I felt like she consistently tried to impart vocal jazz hands or a joke with every sentence, not giving me as the listener time to settle into the story.

I had to stop the audiobook several times because I found it distracting. And lastly, I really didn't like her voice for Roscoe. It was soft spoken and coaxing, it kinda reminded me of sleazy guys at a club you try to avoid.

    Improved female narration

I loved Roscoe and Simone’s story! It appears that previous reviews did not like the female narration, but it was rereleased in August with a new Simone. She was fantastic ! Great story and performance.
