Description
December 12, 2019, Jade returns to the rural lake town of Proofrock the same day as convicted Indigenous serial killer Dark Mill South escapes into town to complete his revenge killings, in this riveting sequel to My Heart Is a Chainsaw from New York Times best-selling author Stephen Graham Jones.
Four years after her tumultuous senior year, Jade Daniels is released from prison right before Christmas when her conviction is overturned. But life beyond bars takes a dangerous turn as soon as she returns to Proofrock. Convicted serial killer Dark Mill South, seeking revenge for 38 Dakota men hanged in 1862, escapes from his prison transfer due to a blizzard, just outside of Proofrock, Idaho.
Dark Mill South’s reunion tour began on December 12, 2019, a Thursday.
Thirty-six hours and 20 bodies later, on Friday the 13th, it would be over.
Don’t Fear the Reaper is the thrilling sequel to My Heart Is a Chainsaw from New York Times best-selling author Stephen Graham Jones.

Great acting and characters but slow
The story is exactly what you want in a sequel but some parts of the book seem a little slow and the actors give it there all.

Great sequel great cast
I actually enjoyed this more than My Heart is a Chainsaw. Better readers, clearer story. Looking forward to the final book in the trilogy.

Expands the story of the first novel
Great second chapter of this trilogy which expands the scope of the first novel, with multiple points of view coming into play this time vs just Jade's POV in the first. The approach allows for a great way to show the communal impact of the events of the first book as well as a broader sense of the community at large and how the often violent and unjust history of the region forms its social foundations. It took a little to get used to the multiple narrators in the audiobook but once it found it's the groove the narrative became quite captivating. I only wish there was more background in Letha and Tompkins' relationship as it feels like their bond isn't fleshed out as much as it needs to be. Otherwise a great read, especially if you liked the first novel.

Story is good, execution not so much.
This is such a departure from the first book. It’s a bit of a mess with so many points of views. It was hard to keep track of what the as going on. Maybe a second listen might make it better. I don’t know.

super solid!
I found myself enjoying this book much more than I did the first, but that's not to say that the first one was bad. it wasn't and I liked it but I loved this! to see how trauma affects people after the event in the first book? I'd insert a clapping emoji here. if I had to nit pick, I'd say that there were so many different voices narrating that it can kind of get lost in the shuffle when I wanted to hear more from jade or one of the other major players. Definitely worth a credit!

Narration could be jarring
The content was fantastic and I can't wait for the next one! I didn't really like the huge cast, it was hard to concentrate on what was going on.
