Dirty Linen: How Women Sued The Reader's Digest and Changed History is the story of the landmark sexual discrimination lawsuit against the well-known magazine and publishing empire. The book is written by one of the eight women who stepped forward to challenge the assumptions that kept women out of higher positions despite being eminently qualified and legislation prohibiting discrimination. The story traces the women's journey from awareness to action and is a highly compelling and uplifting lesson in civil rights activism as well as an intimate look at how activism affected the author. In addition to the eight women, the listener meets Reader's Digest staff including Founders DeWitt and Lila Bell Acheson Wallace, as well as the heroic legal team that represented the women. The events take place in the 1970s when Reader's Digest was a staple in every household. It is a tell-all peek behind the doors of the ivy-covered tower that was home to the magazine.

Weaving a tale that encompasses seemingly disparate events such as the murders of civil rights activists in Mississippi, the sit-in at Columbia University, and Watergate, the author demonstrates how history is all connected. The outcome of the lawsuit sent an alarm throughout the communications industry and changed it forever. Here is proof that our individual successes are achieved on the shoulders of those who came before us. This personal tale of the fight for gender equality is both a look at how far we have come and how much there is still to do.
