    Description

From the Wall Street Journal best-selling author of 44 Chapters About 4 Men (inspiration for the Netflix Original series Sex/Life) comes a dark Mafia romance steeped in Irish folklore.

I can’t remember anymore if my grandfather’s eyes were blue or green, but I’ll never forget the way they wrinkled at the corners when he laughed at one of his own jokes. Or the way they sparkled with mischief when he told me tales about the magical creatures that dwelled in the forest behind his humble Irish sheep farm—shy fairies who liked to eat tea biscuits, cruel witches who liked to eat children, a moody lake spirit with a taste for expensive gifts.

As a child, I believed every fantastical word. But when he warned me about the mute boy who also lurked in those woods, the one the priest had declared to be the spawn of Satan himself, I refused to listen. Kellen wasn’t evil. He was kind, and beautiful, and special, and hurting. He was my friend. And with every summer I spent stolen away with him in those enchanted woods, he grew to become so much more.

But when I return to Glenshire as an adult, grieving and engaged to someone else, all those legends quickly morph into nightmares.

My grandfather had been right about everything, especially the boy.

    If only I had listened.

Warning: If you are a sensitive listener or find certain topics to be emotionally triggering, please exercise self-care and select a different book. Devil of Dublin is intended for mature audiences who enjoy dark subject matter, tortured antiheroes, explicit adult content, graphic violence, heart-pounding suspense, fairy-tale-worthy love, and gorgeous Irish scenery. If that sounds like you, then welcome to Glenshire!

    The Narrator….holy….

I loved this book. It was crazy, intense, mythical, dark, and devastating. The narrators both did amazing jobs bringing the characters to life. And holy shit, the male narrator…. I wouldn’t hate for him to read me bedtime stories for the rest of my life.

    Heart-pounding and Steamy Romance!

What a thrilling, emotional, and seductive love story! I was completely captivated by this magical story and couldn't stop listening to the wonderful narration by Elizabeth Klett, and Eric Nolan. Their accents were incredible! But their characters were so much more than their accents. They made each character recognizable with every nuance of inflection and cadence. They are a perfect team, allowing me to be totally immersed in this world.
Darby first meets Kellan when she visits her mother's childhood home in Ireland when she is a child. Darby is fascinated with the magical fairytales her grandfather weaves and brings that enthusiasm with her to play with Kellan. Kellan is living a nightmare and loves this little girl who brings light into his world. They trust each other and through the years form an unbreakable bond. Kellan waits all year for Darby to come from America, until she doesn't. Darby and Kellan are heartbroken without the other half of their soul. When they finally find their way back to each other, they must fight the devil to never lose each other again! This is a heartbreakingly beautiful romance between two damaged but not broken soul mates. I loved both Darby and Kellan. They seemed opposites at first glance but were so much more complex. They were both fighters, dealing with their heartbreaking past from opposite directions. They tempered each other and made each other stronger. I loved how this story unfolded with each heartbreak, each sweet moment and each plot twist. It was the perfect blend of suspense, mystery, laughter, and romance.

    The male narrator is 🔥🔥

This is apparently his first audiobook, but something tells me he’s going to become a superstar in the audiobook world right quick. His performance alone is worth the credit, but I have to warn you, the female narrator and the story itself are not.

I’ve never listened to an audiobook where the narrators were so mismatched. His voice was like silk and he acted out his chapters, while she just read the story and her voice is shrill, nasally and obnoxious. It was painful to switch from his chapters to hers so I eventually just downloaded the book and read Darby’s chapters. Why she was selected to narrate this, I’ll never know. Anyone with ears can immediately tell that she was not the right choice.

As for the story, the first 50% is easily a 5 star book. The second half is riddled with implausible scenarios that defy logic, reality, and science, and is so drawn out for no other reason than the author wanting to write a mafia romance but having no idea how to do so. It’s such a shame because if she had just kept going in the direction the first half was headed, this book would have been a masterpiece.

    it dragged for me

the story said the heroine was 'being punished for agreeing to marry her fiance' who turned out to be abusive. The story victim-blames her for a little bit. She hadn't seen the hero in years, she was told he was unalive. Course she's going to move on.

I had a problem with the story --was it paranormal or was it contemporary? It held onto the edge of that and it was frustrating.

It took forever to get to any romance.

This story has a lot of good reviews, but I don't see the appeal at all. It dragged for me, I kept waiting for any good parts, to be sucked in but it never happened.

    Good narrators though.

    3.5 Stars

This is another case of wishing that Audible/Amazon would get on it with the half stars, because this book absolutely is better than 3. I just can't make myself give it 4 as there was something about it that just didn't connect with me. The writing was good, and subject matter was deep and seemed very well researched. I loved the little bit of magic spotted throughout, and the suspense kept me on edge. I listened to the audiobook, and it was well done as well. I just never felt like I was invested in the characters as individuals, which made it hard to connect with them as a couple. But it was a very beautiful story, and I'm glad that I read (listened to) it.

One Day Read, Magical story, Heartfelt love story

This was my first BB Easton read. The narration is fantastic. I will be recommending this to my friends. The storyline had a sweet sentiment that I really enjoyed. I've been to Ireland a few times and the book brings out all my favorite aspects of the island. I especially liked that the female character wasn't a patgetic damsel. Perfect plane read if you are headed there for a trip or a lazy Sunday daydream read.

    Loved the it all.

I’m committed to include arseways in my daily conversations. No, but really, the book was lovely and Eric Nolan’s voice is next level hot. Klett’s narration was good, I was ready to space from listening to her when the book was finished.

    Binged This

I surprised myself by finishing this in a day. I just couldn’t wait. It was completely captivating. I’ve never read anything like it. I love a good story surrounding trauma. I find it so brave to write. This was respectfully done, but felt a bit unrealistic at times. However, since everyone processes trauma differently, I suppose anything is possible.

I didn’t find this book “dark”. At least my definition of the word. I was really bracing for impact that never came. But it is definitely trigger filled and emotionally heavy so I appreciate that warning. It just felt real. Real characters with real issues. I know people read to escape a lot and so do I, but every now and then, I enjoy getting real.

The narration was good, not great. I think both actors really brought the emotion to their performances. And Eric’s voice was sooooo satisfying to listen to. Just like honey! Or silk. Just beautiful. But it was a bit too mumbly and, at times, monotoned. I had to turn the bass down to hear clearly. Elizabeth’s voice was not my favorite. It’s a bit whiny. And she has hardly any range. BUT, again, she really brought the emotion and her reading was lively so I still enjoyed her performance.

I recommend for the Irish accents if nothing else, but the creativity and touching story as well!

    Coffee on a Sunday Morning

This book. Wow. This story followed me to bed and woke me . That’s how resounding the story was, even now I think of the characters . I admire an author that can write a spell. An enchantment that creeps inside you & fill out. This is what this BB Easton did.

I love more uninhibited sexual tension & descriptors. This book gave introductory bits and painted the picture well enough but not the deep dive I have come to enjoy in Mafia romances .

    Magical, breath-taking, heart-pounding

I loved this story and will definitely explore more titles by this author. The narration was truly moving, and I was completely drawn into this story about Irish fairy tales, mafia, trauma, redemption and hope.
