I had never encountered anxiety before until March of this year. Of course, didn't know how to handle it but I did my best to get into counseling and help myself.
I've heard before that finding a counselor is like finding a boyfriend, meaning that you actually need to like him and feel understood but challenge at the same time. I found counselors that I thought they were nice because they heard me, but never felt challenged in any way, never received a actual explanation of how anxiety works in our bodies and brains so had to always end up looking for more information elsewhere which sometimes is helpful but sometimes it just helps the anxiety itself to increase.
I found Barry's video on gratitude on YouTube one day by mistake in which in the end he mentioned his technique DARE, thought it was interesting and did my research about Barry so... ended up getting the audio book.
It was exactly what I needed at the time, he explained everything I was feeling and other things that I have not experienced as well (which I thought was important because there was so much information that I decided to stop going to Google all the time). The technique works! it's scary in the beginning as he explains because you are welcoming the anxiety, but keeps you on the driver seat! I'm still a long way to be anxiety free, but this has helped and keeps on helping me from having an anxiety attack so far. As an addition to this, Barry and his team have an App that it is so helpful and its a great compliment to the book.
I've read some comments of people saying that Barry is repetitive, but trust me, our psyches need to hear accurate information over and over again in order to absorb it.
Even though my counselor is a very nice person and I'm sure she knows a lot, I started feeling much better and experienced big changes since I've listened to Barry's book.
