Americans precede anything negative with three nice comments; French, Dutch, Israelis, and Germans get straight to the point; Latin Americans and Asians are steeped in hierarchy; Scandinavians think the best boss is just one of the crowd. It's no surprise that when they try and talk to each other, chaos breaks out. In The Culture Map, INSEAD professor Erin Meyer is your guide through this subtle, sometimes treacherous terrain in which people from starkly different backgrounds are expected to work harmoniously together.

The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg won't create a social network. If you are copying these guys, you aren't learning from them. It's easier to copy a model than to make something new: doing what we already know how to do takes the world from 1 to n, adding more of something familiar. But every time we create something new, we go from 0 to 1.

"Correlation does not imply causation". This mantra has been invoked by scientists for decades and has led to a virtual prohibition on causal talk. But today, that taboo is dead. The causal revolution, sparked by Judea Pearl and his colleagues, has cut through a century of confusion and placed causality - the study of cause and effect - on a firm scientific basis.

Cracking the Tech Career is the job seeker's guide to landing a coveted position at one of the top tech firms. A follow-up to The Google Resume, this audiobook provides new information on what these companies want and how to show them you have what it takes to succeed in the role. Early planners will learn what to study, and established professionals will discover how to make their skillsets and experiences set them apart from the crowd. Author Gayle Laakmann McDowell worked in engineering at Google and interviewed more than 120 candidates as a member of the hiring committee - in this book, she shares her perspectives on what works and what doesn't, what makes you desirable, and what gets your resume saved or deleted.

Same as the google resume
The content is almost directly from the google resume. Very bad narration. Buy the other book or just buy something else.

Useful information
Gayle focuses much more on the soft-skills side of the interview, and on what should and should not be on a resume, than she does in Cracking the Coding Interview [CtCi].
Consider the first few pages of CtCi only with more content and more topics. That's what this book is all about.

Too much filler
The sentences & paragraphs drag on with sparse value. Maybe useful for new grads, I found myself skipping large sections in multiple chapters because the topic was low impact common-sense and/or drawn out far too long. Brevity and more compelling content would've been appreciated.

Good, practical advice
This book had a lot of good advice for anyone trying to break into the tech career. However, the target audience seemed pretty broad. I would like a version of this book but targeted more directly to just software developers.

Sexist
The author refers to everyone in the tech industry as "she". Are men not be welcome in the tech industry? Is she delusional? I don't know. She shouldn't be taken seriously.

Bisher noch keinen Job, aber hilfreiche Tipps!
eine Hartkopie zum Nachlesen der ganzen Tipps wäre auf keinen Fall verkehrt. Das stört mich bisschen, vorallem wenn man Fachbücher liest
