Description

Workaholic Detective Aiden Carlisle isn't looking for love - and certainly not at the law-enforcement seminar she reluctantly agreed to attend. But the first lecturer is not at all what she expected.

Psychologist Dawn Kinsley has just found her place in life. After a failed relationship with a police officer, she has sworn never to get involved with another cop again, but she feels a connection to Aiden from the very first moment.

Can Aiden keep herself from crossing the line when a brutal crime threatens to keep them apart before they've even gotten together?

Contains mature themes.

Amazing book

To take such a sensitive topic and spin it into an amazing story is why Jea is in my top 10 authors. This book was very intense as one of the MC is raped right at the beginning of the book which made it a tough read at times but if you can push past it it is worth it. I ended up invested in Dawn’s healing journey and how Aiden was so patient with her. It was well written with likable characters intertwined in a heartfelt storyline.

It takes time to rebuild a stronger life.

A story of violence that steals your independence and innocence. It can only take what we let it. Dawn's life is in changed forever. Aiden does not know the depths she has lost. Together they have a chance to build a life of love that is strong, whole and built to last forvever.

Another Classic Story and Performance

Aiden is a police detective with the Portland Sex Crimes Unit. Fawn works with victims of rape and assault. When they meet at a seminar for police officers where Dawn specks on LGBTQ issues of rape and assault, Aiden is drawn to her. Can their attraction grow into something bigger? Marvelous author and performance. Recommend.

Decent writing but fairly predictable plotline.

The book would have been substantially shorter, significantly easier to listen to and had a less trite feeling to the writing if the author would have left out even half of the parenthetical remarks made "inside the character's minds." She seemed to use this device as a vehicle to make sure the audience was able to understand the reason for some of the dialogue (as if we weren't intelligent enough to follow along). The narrator was fairly good. She would read some lines of character voice and then continue reading narrative phrases in the same tone of voice she used for the preceding character. It was distracting. Overall the story was okay but the author should have decided if she wanted to write a detective novel or a romance novel. She seemed to have two half written books the wove them together. I may try another of her books now that she has her characters established.

What can go wrong?

When Jae writes and Abby Craden narrates there is always a success. And this book is no different.
I loved Aiden, she is a strong balanced woman, both in her profession and her love. She reminded me of “Olivia Benson” from SUV. The story was well developed and I liked the court scenes, these scenes Iar missed in SUV.
So thank you Jae for actually detailing that.

Get on with it already...

I normally really like Jae. But this book was really really really slow.
The narrator was good which made the book bearable, but otherwise I have read a lot better

Just blown away

Fell in love with each character. It’s intensity and vulnerability is a true testimonial to the power of a human being. I’ve read and listened to similar stories but haven’t gotten the realistic emotions a person would undergo. Thanks For being so talented Jae ❤️

Fantastic story and performance

I read this book several times in years past. I was thrilled when it came out on Audible. And, Abby Craden’s portrayal is fantastic! Definitely a worthy purchase. The story resonates with many. I truly recommend.

Great Character + Relationship Building

Very genuine and realistic love story. I have yet to find a lesbian author that puts as much effort into character development as Jae does. I have become obsessed ever since discovering her and have read almost 5 of her books now in two weeks.
