Description

From the USA Today best-selling author of The Music of Us comes a thrilling and poignant new novel:

Ash finds herself in the ER diagnosed with coma. She has no memory of what has happened to her, but what she can do - despite what everyone around her might think - is listen to the conversations of her visitors. One of them is the man who raped her.

For Ash, there is little time to gather clues: blackouts are happening not only in the hospital but throughout California. The Russian hackers who are intent on sabotaging the power grid are trying to blackmail her boyfriend, Michael, into helping their cause. And what better way for them to do it but by kidnapping her out of the hospital?

Coma Awareness

Although she's trapped in her hospital bed and shows no awareness to her visitors, a woman struggles to piece together what happened to her and how it fits into a larger puzzle of intrigue, terrorism and danger.
This story takes a very different turn from any of Uvi Poznansky's previous work examining the oft-asked question "How aware are coma victims of the world around them" then diving into a suspense filled thriller involving Russian saboteurs, hackers, friends and relations who aren't what they seem, and a young woman's determination to overcome her limitation.
The story is well written and researched. The first person perspective provides an interesting view point, particularly since our heroine is physically unresponsive though very much aware and involved with her surroundings.
There's a new narrator for this book as well, an excellent choice since this book is being told from the point of view of it's female protagonist. Heather Hogan captures the emotion. the suspense and the wryly self-depreciating wit with which Poznansky has gifted her heroine.
Although it's very different from the David stories and the WWII centered Lenny stories this one is engaging and delightful and I'm very pleased to note that it's listed as a "book 1" indicating there will be more Ash to be enjoyed.

So well written

I throughly enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed, the storyline keeps you riveted, and you want to try out the recipe. Mole sauce sounds really good after finishing the book. This whole series has been incredible so far.

Ow wow

The books takes us to a very special character in a coma. What people don't realize is that she can hear everything. The story takes us to very bad and sometimes good places of the main character life.
It's a very unique and unusual story.
I loved the way it was written, the narrator was very good and I loved the book.
I don't know if i will listen to the book again and not because the book was bad. It was very good. I just feel it will not be the same after I know what happened. But maybe I'm wrong and maybe some day I will re listen to the story and enjoy the little nuances that I'm sure I probably missed.

Great concept for a mystery!

I was tense throughout the story! Trapped in your body and knowing people want to kill you! Well-written!

Heather Jane Hogan did a great job narrating.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Fabulous story and production!

What a mesmerizing story. From the first lines, the narrator’s haunting voice draws you in: “Growing up, I didn’t care for fairytale characters. The one I disliked the most was Sleeping Beauty. Unfortunately, now I’ve turned into one. It’s the Sleeping part that frightens me…”

You enter the mind of a young woman named Ash, who finds herself beaten and raped, lying in the hospital in a coma. She can’t remember what happened to her but – what an original idea! – she can listen to every conversation around her. She can also think, and here the narrator’s voice gathers the force of someone trapped and speechless, yet still capable of intense observation, even irony.

Heather Hogan’s great narration conveys Ash’s frustration listening to the nurse – “she must think I look like a mummy in my bandages” – and to the monotonous beeping monitor, and to her mother being hostile to her boyfriend Michael. You’ll get shivers hearing Ms. Hogan do the Russian-accented brute who did this atrocity to Ash...in fact the narration swoops through the whole range of human emotion. Bravo to Heather Hogan, and to this thrilling story’s author, Uvi Poznansky, who has delivered a flawless audiobook production. I enjoyed it immensely – five stars!

What an idea for a story !

I could almost bet that the author Uvi Poznansky had a brush with coma or with a patient in the hospital under an induced coma to come up with such an amazing idea for a story, especially that doctors do advise visitors to talk or read to the patient believing that it does help.
An excellent choice picking Heather Jane Hogan into narrating perfectly this story.
Together a beautiful audiobook was created !

This audiobook is a new genre for me and amazingly I’ve enjoyed it so much that I’ve listened twice to this audiobook making sure that I truly got it all and happy that I’ve done so.

I have absolutely no problem whatsoever recommending this audiobook to you all !!!

In exchange for an honest review I’ve received this audiobook.

medical thriller

This is an extremely unique storyline about a woman named Ash who wakes up in a hospital and can't remember what happened. This is a scary because of how realistic it is. When she wakes up and struggles putting the pieces together only for the world to be falling apart around her. The book definitely contains a nice amount of suspense leaving you wanting more. The only real downside is I did not care for her taste in boyfriends. Definitely give this story read if you're looking for a medical crime mystery thriller. It will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.
