Description

Jack's a retired ex-cop from New York, seeking the simple life in Cherringham. Sarah's a Web designer who's moved back to the village find herself. But their lives are anything but quiet as the two team up to solve Cherringham's criminal mysteries.

This compilation contains episodes 22 - 24. The storyline after episode 24 continues in the first Cherringham novel "Dead in the Water".

The Song Never Dies:
When Alex King, leader of legendary 90s rock group Lizard, hosts a party to get the band back together, old grudges surface. At dawn Alex is found floating in the pool of his Cherringham mansion. To the police it's a drug-fueled accident. But when Jack and Sarah get involved, they quickly discover that while a song may never die - the person, who wrote it, might have been murdered.

A Bad Lie:
When talented young artist Josh Andrews goes missing after a stag night prank at Cherringham Golf Club, the bride in desperation asks Jack and Sarah to find him. It seems he’s gotten cold feet, with the wedding just days away. But Josh is not all he appears to be... And soon suspicion falls on the Golf Club itself. Can Josh be found before he takes justice into his own hands?

A Death in the Family:
When a doddering Harry Platt tumbles from the top of his stairs in a deadly fall, it looks like an unfortunate accident. But when solicitor Tony Standish meets the beneficiaries and discovers the immense size of the estate, his suspicions are aroused. Jack and Sarah are asked to investigate and find that nothing is what it seems when it comes to families - not when money and secrets are involved.

Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick listen for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa. For fans of Agatha Christie's "Miss Marple series", Lilian Jackson Braun's "The Cat Who series", Caroline Graham's "Midsomer Murders", and the American TV series "Murder She Wrote", starring Angela Lansbury.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham. The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of "DCI John Barnaby" in "Midsomer Murders" and "Jim Riley" in "The Life of Riley".

Good light mysteries

The Cherringham mystery stories are great light mystery reads. They are not great literature, nor are they the most gripping mysteries around. They are, however, good stories with great characters and good enough plots to keep you engaged. Neil Dudgeon is a great narrator.

I do think the earlier sets were stronger, but would still recommend these latest stories.

Love this series!

In this latest set of three stories, the main characters continue to develop while they solve mysteries. We’re drawn deeper into the dynamic between Jack and Sarah. I can’t wait for the next set to come out.

Jack returns to the US for an emergency..

THE SONG NEVER DIES

This was the story of murder, over a song, and I was totally surprised as to who the killer was. Jack and Sarah were asked to look into Alex King’s death and, as usual, Jack had the feeling Alex didn’t drown all by himself, he definitely had help.

A BAD LIE

That was about what extremes a father will go to when it comes to stopping her daughters’ wedding. Even though Lauren and Josh loved each other I guess Mr. Proctor wanted to choose the groom, whether it was good for Lauren or not. BUT Jack promised the couple that he and Sarah would make it right. Which they did.

A DEATH IN THE FAMILY

Well, this started with a man with dementia falling down stairs and killing himself. Jack and Sarah were asked to investigate it because there was no reason for Harry Platt to even be upstairs. Jack and Sarah solved the case and at Jack’s birthday party at the Ploughman bar he got a call from the states telling him his daughter and her husband had been in an accident and they were both in ICU. Jack immediately told Sarah and asked her to take care of his dog and off he went to the states and that was The End.

So, no romance, no sex and no swearing. A rated G series.

As to the narration: I’ve said it 7 times before and I’ll say it about this 8th book Neil Dudgeon did an awesome job.

The ending was a cliffhanger!

I adore this series & I was airing for this next 3 book collection so anxiously! and of course it did not disappoint! Plenty of the classic banter & crime solving with our favorite duo & an ending in the last book that left me on pins and needles. I can hardly wait for the next compilation to come out again!

How dare you write this ending

I won’t be buying the next set of stories. The stories were already quite repetitive, both across stories and within them. Mildly interesting , pleasant, and highly predictable “background” while doing other things. The ending of the last story was inexcusable. Maybe you wanted a “cliffhanger” but instead you wrote the stories right off the cliff. I’m done.

These little cozies are great fun, interesting plots with eccentric characters and lead roles.
