Description
An Astra Militarum Novel
When the Imperial shrine world of Kathur is blighted by Chaos, the brave Guardsmen of Cadia are sent to reclaim it. Yet, they cannot imagine what lies ahead...
Listen to it because....
Aaron Dembski-Bowden's first novel, Cadian Blood is a Black Library classic, pitting a force of plucky Guardsmen from Cadia against a zombie apocalypse.
The story:
When the Imperial shrine world of Kathur is blighted by Chaos, the brave Guardsmen of Cadia are sent to reclaim it. The plague of Nurgle has set in deeply on the planet, forcing the Cadians into battle with an innumerable legion of the infected. In the midst of battle, Captain Parmenion Thade is thrust into an unlikely commanding role. Yet he cannot imagine what lies ahead on Kathur, and just how important it will be to ensure victory there.

ADB does it again!
I know this is an older book, but it’s fantastic! The narrator did an excellent job on this as well.

Great Book
It’s great to see the guard get some love instead of getting decimated for the Astartes to save the day

This is my favorite warhammer novel by far.
While it’s Aaron’s freshman novel it does not disappoint. He is the best writer in the black library, and this novel hits all the themes of warhammer 40,000.

A great first outing in warhammer for ADB
Honestly, although i am not a huge fan of cadians, this book really scratched an itch for me. I've always liked imperial forces fighting hordes and hordes of their own citizens, whether it be plague zombies, regular cults, or some demonic virus that spreads from person to person.
While i think that many of the characters were pretty stock standard and not all too much to write home (or to audible about, i suppose) i think that actually is in the books favor. This book is a fun ride without too many twists and turns, if there was a term for a popcorn flick that applied to audiobooks and further more to well written ones in the black library verse, this would be it.
The narrator served well, but one or two characters voices didn't quite fit the characters. The only other oddness is as of time of writing, this book is said to be part of a series it is not in. I'm hopeful that will get fixed soonish as not to confuse people, getting into black library books is hard enough without mislabeling such as these.

What A IG Novel Should Feel Like
Overwhelming odds, insane Leadership decisions, Space Marines are there and sufficiently awesome, but do not steal the spotlight. Nurgle is always a fun antagonist, and I liked how Typhus was there as a looming threat. It may sound stupid, but the wins of the Guard felt earned - that is how humanity in 40k can overcome the awful threats from everywhere. Dogged determination and simply having more bodies to throw at a problem then the enemy.

Good story but nothing special
It’s a good story, but nothing special in particular. The main 40k storyline is not driven forward in this story, nor does it contain relevant information about any important events. However, it’s a good story for anyone who likes Cadians.
