"A page-turning superhero story"—Kirkus reviews
High school sophomore Matt Pine used to think he'd grow up to be a superhero.
He can move things with his mind…but nothing big enough to matter. It wasn't big enough to save his mom from dying in a fire five years ago.
Ever since that night, Matt's been hiding from his Ability, and he's realized that superheroes don't exist—not in the real world.
Then he witnesses a deadly car crash, and discovers it wasn't an accident.
The owner of the local auto parts factory is covering up a dangerous secret, and anyone who gets too close ends up dead. Everyone else is keeping their head down and trying to stay alive. But for the first time since his mom died, Matt decides to stop hiding.
He can't do this alone. He has friends with their own overlooked talents, but none of them are very impressive either. The people they're going up against, on the other hand, have money, muscle, and guns. Matt and his friends know they don't stand a chance.
But being a hero means having the guts to stand up anyway.
But I'm Not A Hero is a grounded YA speculative thriller with superhuman elements.
