Comedy? Political and social commentary? Sure, but not in the way I expected. Instead, I was given so much more. Noah's story is intertwined with the final years and aftermath of apartheid-era South Africa. It's a story that begins with Noah's mother throwing him from a moving car to avoid a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters and follows the comedian's path to self-discovery amid episodes both bittersweet and comical. It's eloquent and touching and funny and made all the better with his reading, especially as he recounts anecdotes involving his mother - the true show stealer - and delivers clever turns of phrase as only a top-notch comic and storyteller can. Incroyable !
A écouter absolument, si vous voulez rire, être surpris, émus, choqué, apprendre mais surtout rire. Le meilleur livre audio que j’ai écouté grâce à l’histoire et la performance de Mr Noah qui est très très talentueux. Il sait imiter tout type de personnages. Il est brillant. J’ai passé un très bon moment. Je le recommande sans aucune hésitation

Amazing
What a book!!! What a performance!
I think that if I had read this one it wouldn’t have been as poignant and catching as the audio version. Trevor Noah’s writing and performance delighted me.
It’s now one of my favorite books.

Wow
Trevor shares so many great stories in this book! From apartheid to his abusive stepdad, those stories may not be the first ones but it’s the first time I here someone share it

A wonderful story, a wonderful reader
A very well written book, entertaining, interesting, informative, witty, and guaranteed to provoke both laughter and tears.
Provides fascinating insights into the roots of racism and how apartheid worked in South Africa.
Having the author read their book is almost always advantageous, as they bring scenes to life even more through their intonation and interpretation.
Having an excellent performer like Trevor Noah read his autobiographical stories in his wide array of languages and accents means that the Audible version is far more enjoyable.
A must read, which is a much better hear!

Incroyable !
Que dire ? A part que je suis déjà nostalgique de ce livre dont je viens tout juste de finir l'écoute. Cette histoire est incroyable dans tous les sens du terme. Quelle vie ! Le récit est passionnant, à la fois très dur, drôle parfois, et terriblement émouvant la plupart du temps.
Magnifique narration de Trevor Noah qui met tout son talent au profit de cette version audio, renforçant encore son talent indéniable d'écriture.

l'afrique du sud vu par un jeune métis: attachant
En tant qu'européenne ma vision de l'afrique du sud était limitée à Neslon Mandela. Trevor Naoh est devenu une star mais il nous partage tout son parcours, Il donne une vision attachante étonnante bouleversante et tellement vivante de l'Afrique du Sud.

je lis en anglais pour l'entrenir et Trevor Noah lit son livre de façon compréhensible.

Une merveille
J'ai adoré ce livre qui m'a accompagné chaque matin pendant ma marche quotidienne. J'ai pleuré, j'ai rit, j'étais très émue. La voix de Trevor Noah, ses accents, son imitation des personnages sont superbes. On a impression d'être à côté de lui et de vivre son histoire avec lui. Je recommande vivement.
