In this third volume of the London based psychological thriller Shadowhunter, we follow Axel Prefect, as he tries to solve gruesome murder cases, most probably committed by the same person. At the heart of the series' third part lays the painful question of Axel's identity, as he discovers that Tony Prefect, the man who raised him, is not his biological father. Between professional accomplishment, complicated love affairs, and personal obsessions, Axel finds himself in the middle of a perfect storm. The story opens in Paris, where two gendarmes, Agent Castelain and Agent Lesbirel, are called to an apartment in Asnières-sur-Seine. They discover a large bloodstain dripping from the ceiling into the flat below. Inside the upper apartment, they find the remains of the occupant, Gaston Paulin. The killer left a bizarre, taunting tableau: a bright-blue hazmat suit sitting in the bath with a rubber duck wearing sunglasses. The victim's passport is missing, along with his stolen dark-silver Mercedes S-Class. Europol agent dismisses the case as the work of a psychotic drug addict, but Agent Castelain and Axel Prefect suspect a more organized, psychopathic killer who took the passport for a deliberate purpose. Despite Raymon Inge, Axel's boss, assigning him to a different case, Axel pursues the investigation, getting more deeply involved than we would have wished. Psychological Thriller & Suspense
