    Description

Anne Rice continues her astonishing Vampire Chronicles with the story of Lestat's passionate quest for redemption, goodness and the love of Rowan Mayfair.

Here are all the brilliantly conceived principal characters that make up Anne Rice's world of vampires and witches: Mona Mayfair, who's come to Blackwood Farm to die and is, instead, brought into the realm of the undead; Rowan Mayfair, brilliant neurosurgeon and witch, who finds herself dangerously drawn to Lestat; her husband, Michael Curry, hero of the Mayfair Chronicles, who seeks Lestat's help with the temporary madness of his wife; Patsy, country-western singer, who returns to avenge her death at the hands of her son, Quinn Blackwood.

And here is the spirit of Julien Mayfair, guardian of the family, determined to torment Lestat eternally for what he has done to Mona...the riddle of the five-thousand-year-old Taltos involving Mona's child...and, at the book's center, the Vampire Lestat, once the epitome of evil and now, following the transformation set in motion in Memnoch the Devil, struggling with his vampirism and yearning for goodness, purity, and love as he contends with ghosts, legends, secrets, and the mystery of Taltos, and as he wrestles with the face of his beloved Rowan Mayfair.

Please note: This is the abridged edition. An unabridged version is also available.

"Writing as if her blood-inked quill were afire, Rice seems truly possessed by her Brat Prince of darkness as she races through the story." ( Publishers Weekly)

    BUY THE UNABRIDGED

I wish I had noted that an Un-abridged version was avaialble when I bought this. I looked, but didn't find it on the site. Now I am very disapointed, since I always prefer unabridged.

The book itself is good, Lestat is back!

If you are in a hurry, you can save 5 hours buying this one, but if you like unabridged audio books, stay away from this one.

    Way too short. Ripoff.

The narration was very good. The story was decent. However, this book is far shorter than the rest of the books in the series. I was very disappointed at how short the book was compared to its price. This book should have been far cheaper than it was. I feel like I did not get my money's worth.

    don't waste your money

Besides the narrator's bad French accent, he mispronounces words so badly just the hearing of such is like scraping your knuckles on a cheese grater... It's GuadalupAY not GuadaLOOP (Guadalupe) (like Guadalupe Hildalgo...) my old boss was Creole and I dated and visited a gal from New Orleans when I was stationed at Ft Hood so I'm a bit familiar with the accents. The dialogue was distracting as the narrator sounded more Slavic than French. Ms. Rice did a good job with her descriptive writing style as usual, I personally wish the story had a bit more meat on the bones...the audio version of this has me thinking of overcooked beef ribs without sauce...

    Unimpressed

I love Anne Rice's tales of the vampires, but this one did not impress. The characters were not as well developed as in her other books. I know this is a sequel of sorts to Blackwood Farm and the characters were developed in the books that they previously appeared in, but in this they were fairly weakened versions of themselves. I also didn't get the love affair between Lestat and Rowan, but there is a very nice set up for them reunite in the future. I'll be on the look out for that. If it happens, I hope there'll be more to their story.
I know a writer can't hit it out if the park with every single book they write, so I can dislike this one while still loving Anne Rice and the other books.
As for the narration-I hated it! Stephen Spinella's voice was robotic and a bit high pitched for my taste. I also didn't like how he read Rowan Mayfair or Michael, or any of the characters for that matter. As I recall from The Witching Hour, Rowan grew up in San Francisco and had no idea of her Southern roots, until a death occurred in the family, but he read her with a full on southern accent anyway. Ugh! His voices for the Tallis were again, robotic and nasal and therefore annoying and I couldn't wait to be done listening to this audio book. Too bad I didn't really have time to read it for myself.
If you have the time, read it for yourself-do not listen to this version.

    Great over all!

This was really great! I enjoyed it immensely. It was so wonderful to be able to continue on with the Mayfairs in the Vampire Chronicles . What fun!

    horrible dont get this

What disappointed you about Blood Canticle?

The narration was just awful, i was deeply disturbed and unsettled by the voice timbre and style of the narrator.

Has Blood Canticle turned you off from other books in this genre?

it has turned me off of ever listening to an audio book again

Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Spinella’s performances?

    never again... ever..

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Blood Canticle?

i would change the person reading it, the book is amazing i had hoped to listen and love it more however i wish i had never done so.
