"Narrator Paul Sparks's performance is so perfect it challenges the listener to stop listening. Sure—just TRY to turn it off! Sparks is fantastic, whether he's giving voice to a fat Mafioso called Pig or a young rape victim who turns to Billy for help or the other colorful characters from King's work. While Billy's character is a tad far-fetched, it fits the definition of antihero—think Showtime's Dexter. And because the story is told in the first person, listeners see the decent person inside the man with blood on his hands."

I clearly wouldn't have finished the novel if it wasn't a King who is still at the top of his game. The story is captivating, side characters so rich even if their existence in the book is ephemeral; and a surprisingly poetic ending for a hired killer novel.
The only caveat in my opinion is the poor narrator performance. Seems like punctuation was taken out of the text he was reading. Such a shame the book deserves 5 had the narrating been decent.

This is something of a departure from his usual work in that there is nothing supernatural or at least very very little. Having said that this what critics call hard to put down. The performance is excellent and I would recommend this audio book to any Stephen King fans as well as any fans of suspense fiction. The references to his previous works of the shining and the stand in this case are always a pleasure.

The only negative thing I have to say is that the story somewhat lacks originality. But it’s still a very well written story, and narrator’s flow goes particularly well for this one.
