Description

Rocky Mountain National Park has it all: rugged peaks, pine-scented forests, enchanting bird-watching locations, and...murder.

The Cozy Corgi bookshop finally opens, and Winifred Page and her headstrong corgi, Watson, are ready to welcome their first patrons. With her new best friend, Katie, creating heavenly pastries in the bakery on the top floor of the store, Fred’s dreams are all coming together in delicious and unexpected ways.

When Katie caters a meeting of the Feathered Friends Brigade and drags Fred along, they expect nothing more than loquacious chatter about birds as they endeavor to build a professional relationship with the owner of the wild bird shop. Fred and Katie are quickly roped into a moonlight snowshoeing hike in hopes of spotting a rare owl. While the endangered bird proves elusive...the murdered man in the snow is hard to miss.

Fred’s growing relationship with Sergeant Wexler hits a snag when he forbids her from donning her sleuth hat yet again. But Fred is a lot like her corgi - she doesn’t like being told what to do, even if it puts an end to a possible romance.

As Fred and Watson delve into the lives of the ornithological club members, the tangled bird's nest of an investigation makes Fred wonder if she should have left this one to the police. But when feathers begin to fly, Fred has no choice but to flush out a killer....

Good mystery, I had no idea whodunnit.

Angie Hickman, the narrator of this audio is good at bringing this series to life. I would definitely listen to her again.

The story is really good too. Since Winifred (Fred) Page moved to her small town, murders have been on the rise. It's a slightly unbelievable notion that happens in cozy mysteries. Of course, you have to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the books for what they are.

The most recent death is a member of the ornithology club. And for once the suspects are not friends or family of Fred. She takes a moment to decide not to get involved before a warning from the detective backfires and her own curiosity gets the best of her. Whether it is because her father was a police officer, or because Fred just loves mysteries, she really can't let things go and let the police department solve it on their own. Also like in a lot of mysteries, the police often overlook things or follow the easiest leads instead of really digging. Thank goodness for Fred Page and her corgi, Watson. Often I am able to guess who the guilty party is, but I was definitely surprised in this book.

I feel like in this book about bird lovers and birds, Watson got a little lost. He still helped a little; his sense of smell saved the day, but he felt less present. Fred's world is expanding, though, so it makes sense that there will be more characters getting attention. Besides her mother, stepfather, uncles, and her best friend Katie, she is juggling two men who could both become someone she cares about. Of course, I have a favorite of the two, but I have a feeling she will make her own decision that could be different from mine. And that's okay. The romance or possible romance is definitely in the background. The mysteries are what's important.

This is the only cozy mystery series that I read though I have read my share of LGBT mysteries. I am definitely enjoying the little community that the author created and look forward to reading or listening to more in this series.

Keeps You Guessing

I loved this story. There were so many suspects and it kept you guessing and bouncing around as to who it could be. I enjoyed this story the entire time I was listening. Angie did an amazing job as the narrator and really made the story entertaining.

Fred and Watson save the day again!

Fred and Watson are trying to enjoy the grand opening of the Cozi Corgi but Freds vision of the moment is complicated as she finds herself struggling between the affections of the cop and the ranger on opening night. She and Watson are settling in to their new life in Estes when they end up participating in the bird club’s night snowshoe hike. The night is “fowled” up when one of the members of the exclusive club is murdered. I love this series, the characters are enjoyable and engaging and the narration is perfect! I cant wait to see what else the two and company manage to get themselves into, not to mention which suiter Fred chooses. I look forward to more Cozi Corgi stories! Keep them coming! Highly creative mystery

In Bickering Birds by
Mildred Abbott, Winifred "Fred" Page and her corgi sidekick, Watson, gets involved in yet another murder in her new hometown of Estes Park, Colorado. On the day that her new bookstore, The Cozy Corgi, opens, Myrtle Bantam and the 12 members of her Feathered Friends Brigade come in. After Myrtle tastes the delicious baked goods made by Fred's partner, Katie, she hires Katie to cater the next meeting of the Brigade. Before they know it, Fred and Katie are joining the group, along with park ranger Leo, on a night bird walk through the Rocky Mountain National Park. However, just as they enjoy seeing some elk, a scream pierces the air and scares the elk away. The club curmudgeon, prone to accusing everyone in the group in turn of poaching, has been murdered.

Fred has solved a couple murders in the recent past, so the man she has been seeing, Police Sgt. Branson Wexler, approasches her to order her not to get involved. What a big mistake! Fred gets so enraged at the order that she sets out to solve the case before Branson can do so. But as always, it is Watson who truly saves the day.

I have had fun listening to the Cozy Corgi Mysteries, and Bickering Birds is a good addition to the books. As someone who personally has a hate- love relationship with a parrot, even I found myself feeling sympathetic towards the birds of the title. The book drew me to appreciate Watson all the more, making me cheer as Watson saves the day.

Angie Hickman narrates the audio edition of this book and gives a strong performance. She plays the role of Fred, who gives a first- person narrative of the book, with the flavor and energy one might picture coming from Fred. Her depictions of the dignified Watson's inner voice add to the fun.

Bickering Birds proved to be a fun, clever book with a unique angle. Abbott exercises creativity in her plots, something I have come to fully enjoy.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free for review purposes, but that had no effect on the content of my review.

Delightful Listen!

I so enjoy the Cozy Corgi series featuring Fred and Watson. Mildred Abbott has done an impeccable job with the vivid imagery of Estes Park in this series and the endearing characters. I so enjoy how the characters are developed and that the book is a standalone listen, and yet a continuation of the series. Angie Hickman brings the characters to life with her voice and expressions. Bickering Birds is full of some unexpected twists, and has a wonderful ending. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Great Cozy Murder Mystery Series

I found this story to be very entertaining. I have really gotten into the mystery genre and even more with the cozy mysteries because they are just a cleaner read but some come off a bit predictable. This story however was not predictable which made it even more fun. Mildred Abbott does a great job with her plots, comic relief, interesting characters and keeping you guessing. I will definitely be watching for more by this author. Angie does a great job with the narration, she's entertaining to listen to and really just makes you glad you are listening to it instead of reading it yourself.

A cute cozy with an adorable pup!

This is my first book in this series and it was so easy to jump right in & understand all the dynamics with ease. I’m a dog lover too, so this book was extra charming for me, and if you’re an animal lover too then it’s such a cute touch! The mystery was well molded & the narration was crisp and very enjoyable! I’m going to go back and buy the prior books now! I was gifted this book & left an honest review

The Cozy Corgi is open for business!

Now that The Cozy Corgi bookstore is open, Fred and her pup, Watson, are busy supplying her patrons with books and a pleasant atmosphere. Meanwhile, Katie, owner of the bakery upstairs, provides delicious treats, humorous conversation, and friendship. Katie finds herself catering for the the exclusive Feathered Friends Brigade. A midwinter hike leads to the unfortunate murder of a Brigade member. Fred and Watson step up to help solve the mystery.

This is the second book in this series that I've listened to. I like how Fred has grown and progressed into the owner of a successful business. I like the companion characters that populate the town.

I find the narrator sounds a bit young. (Fred is supposed to be in her late 30s.) However, the narrator does a great job.
