The American Standard Version (ASV) of the Bible, published in 1901, is a significant English translation of the Holy Scriptures. It emerged from the American revision of the English Revised Version of 1881–1885, which itself sought to improve upon the King James Version of 1611 through the use of more accurate manuscripts and careful biblical scholarship. The ASV is widely recognized for its faithfulness to the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts, its formal translation style, and its precise use of language. It preserves the dignity and solemnity of traditional biblical English while striving for greater accuracy and consistency. One of its distinctive features is the frequent use of the divine name “Jehovah” in the Old Testament.Divided into the Old and New Testaments, the ASV contains the foundational narratives, laws, prophecies, teachings, and accounts of Jesus Christ and the early Church. Its emphasis on textual accuracy has made it valuable for personal devotion, biblical study, preaching, and theological research.Although later translations have adopted more contemporary English, the American Standard Version remains an enduring resource for readers seeking a careful and reverent rendering of God's Word.Copyright Bible Channel
