A BRAND NEW gripping and heartwarming wartime saga of courage, friendship and love. Based on the true story of inspirational women who worked Britain's waterways during WW2. Perfect for fans of May Ellis, Rosie Clarke and Donna Douglas!
1942. War is raging across Europe, and the women of Britain are ready to do their bit. But not everyone believes they have what it takes.
After reading a newspaper article claiming women aren't cut out for working Britain's inland waterways, Ruby is determined to prove them wrong. She signs up as one of the new generation of canal boat women – nicknamed the 'Idle Women' – hoping to make a real difference after losing her sweetheart at the start of the war.
There she meets aristocratic Violet Balfour-Munroe and strong-minded Maureen 'Mocky' Mockford. Despite their very different backgrounds, the three women soon form an unbreakable friendship. But life on the canals is tougher than any of them imagined, with back-breaking work, harsh conditions and danger never far away.
As wartime sacrifices grow ever greater, can courage and friendship carry them through the darkest days of the war?
