Description

Best-selling animal advocate Temple Grandin offers the most exciting exploration of how animals feel since The Hidden Life of Dogs.

In her groundbreaking and best-selling book, Animals in Translation, Temple Grandin drew on her own experience with autism as well as her distinguished career as an animal scientist to deliver extraordinary insights into how animals think, act, and feel. Now, she builds on those insights to show us how to give our animals the best and happiest life - on their terms, not ours.

It’s usually easy to pinpoint the cause of physical pain in animals, but to know what is causing them emotional distress is much harder. Drawing on the latest research and her own work, Grandin identifies the core emotional needs of animals. Then, she explains how to fulfill them for dogs and cats, horses, farm animals, and zoo animals. Whether it’s how to make the healthiest environment for the dog you must leave alone most of the day, how to keep pigs from being bored, or how to know if the lion pacing in the zoo is miserable or just exercising, Grandin teaches us to challenge our assumptions about animal contentment and honor our bond with our fellow creatures.

Animals Make Us Human is the culmination of almost 30 years of research, experimentation, and experience.

This is essential listening for anyone who’s ever owned, cared for, or simply cared about an animal.

Amazing!

I really enjoyed every single moment of this book. Temple Grandin did it again by knocking it out of the park. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in behavior and animals.

Some new information...but not for the average dog

I have a lot of respect for temple Grandon and this book has a lot of great information however it’s very disappointing that she would quote a lot of wonderful educated people from the animal world people with doctrines people with degrees and lump in Cesar Millan a TV star with no professional training and no professional learning in his background although she does debunk some of his behaviors and thoughts I feel she also gives him a little bit too much credit It would concern me if the average dog owner read this. However those of us in the profession of anything to do with animals there is some good information in this book. It’s just frustrating that she would use teachings and study’s from the greats like Patricia McConnell and Ian Dunbar and then use information from Cesar Millan

another fantastic one

another fantastic animal book by Temple Grandin. id love for her to do some more work on prey animals with a focus on hunting, touching on common game animals from deer to turkeys etc. hunting done right can be the most ethical and sustainable way of sourcing animal protein. helping hunters to better know their prey could get hunters closer with the prey less afraid, leading consistently quicker and cleaner kills.
