Description

A weathercock has risen from the sea of Discworld, and suddenly you can tell which way the wind is blowing.

A new land has surfaced, and so have old feuds. And as two armies march, Commander Vimes of Ankh-Morpork City Watch has got just a few hours to deal with a crime so big that there's no law against it. It's called "war".

He's facing unpleasant foes that are out to get him...and that's just the people on his side.

The world's cleverest inventor and its most devious politician are on their way to the battlefield with a little package that's guaranteed to stop a battle...

Discworld goes to war...

A true Pratchett classic

Would you listen to Jingo again? Why?

One of the funniest Pratchett stories. Had me rolling with laughter at times.

Have you listened to any of Nigel Planer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I prefer Stephen Bigget's narrative but Nigel definitely performed with flying colour in Jingo.

Laughed out loud too many times to count

Exceptionally incisive, hilarious and a study of human nature at its best.
Loved it !
A must read for anyone that likes satire. A lot of the usual characters make an appearance.
The way he explains the concepts of war, of how 'different means dangerous' is just amazing. Of course you will be laughing all the way at the brilliant wit, fast paced plot so that you won't see the twists coming.
A suffering Vimes, a smug Vetinari, the always innocent Nobby and so much more !!

A book for the times

I am very glad I read this book now although I would have probably felt the same at any other point in our history, which is sad reflection on the constancy of xenophobia and jingoism. Listen to this book to see a reflection of our own ugly selves.

Yet another great story by Pratchet

Would you listen to Jingo again? Why?

I've already listened to it twice and will repeat in few months time for sure.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Captain Carrot. He is always so diligent.

What about Nigel Planer’s performance did you like?

The way he impersonates every single character

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"If the enemy has an impenetrable stronghold, see he stays there"

Loved every minute

I loved Every member of the Night Watch characters, especially The Commander of the Watch. Very cleverly crafted ridicule of the bigots reasoning to go to war, because of race, colour, beliefs and wealth of nations not considered "like us" (usually because they're not white)
Go on buy the book and enjoy the fun in every sentence.
PS. I have read and also later bought the audio of every Disk World novel of the

The master of satire and parody at his best

Terry Pratchett's satire is sharp, witty and so spot on in ???Jingo.??? You might only realise afterwards that you are laughing at yourself. Pratchett???s commentary on the West???s Near Eastern phobia is absolutely valid.

When a war brews between Ankh-Morpork and Klatsch, commander Samuel Vimes of the still unconvincing but multi-racial and rehabilitated City Watch can be depended on to save the day. With dependable seasoned coppers such as Sergeant Fred Colon and Corporal Nobby Nobbs at the patrician, Havelock Vetinari's side, what can go wrong? With foes like 71 hour Achmed, what cannot? With Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson what can happen?

I enjoyed this Discworld novel tremendously. It doesn???t just make fun of our fears, but also challenges the listener to re-evaluate his/her prejudice. This is undoubtedly the strong point of ???Jingo.???

Nigel Planer's interpretive reading is not only excellent, but classic and easy to listen to.

If there is one thing that did hinder a bit, it is the fact that you could hear at times that this recording was taken from audio cassette and switched to digital format. At one place you actually heard the words ???The end of side 14.??? But the little hindrance had more to do that I often had to adjust the volume of my headset to adjust to the sound.

Let the above criticism not make you reluctant to buy this Discworld novel. It???s the master of satire and parody at his best! You???ll get laughs for your money and food for the soul.

Enjoy it!

Unfortunately the last AMCW a.book by N. Planer

As one got use to all the lovely spoken characters, it's a shame that it's not continued by him. I bet a lot of people would love to hear the other AM City Watch being read by Mr. Planer...
