    Description

Sookie has a murder investigation on her hands. A young girl has died at a vampire party - and it looks as though her lover, Eric, might be responsible. Eric swears he didn't do it, the police don't believe him, and even Sookie isn't so sure. Nor is she inclined to take his word for it, having caught him enjoying the victim's blood minutes before she was killed.

But something strange is going on. Why had Sookie been asked to come to the fateful party a few minutes early - just to catch Eric in the act? And why had the victim spiked her blood before approaching Eric? Was it simply because she wanted to be irresistible, or was it something more sinister?

Sookie will have to find out . . . but it's the worst moment to investigate, as her Fae family are having troubles of their own and Sookie is, inevitably, drawn in. And there is one last complication. The cluviel dor her grandmother left her. It will grant her one wish, which could fulfil Sookie's heart's desire. The only problem is, she still doesn't know what - or who - her heart truly desires...

    Sad...

I still like the voice of Johanna Parker and her performance is as good as in the first 11 books of the series.

Beware of spoilers. As few and as carefully chosen as I can, I can't say what I want without revealing some parts of the book.

The first few hours of the book are pretty good and entertaining with a murder mystery. The detective leading the investigation is an interesting character and her thorough interrogations of humans and vampires alike are almost fun. I almost laughed out loud hearing Sookie saying "Honestly it was like being insulted by the pork chop my boyfriend was eating." But then I was a sad when I realized she didn't really meant it...
Even in this good part, we can clearly see that Charlaine Harris as decided she didn't like the Eric-Sookie relationship anymore. She is putting as many obstacles between them as she can, driving them apart and backing them into different corners to the point they don't even speak to each other... It just so sad...
And the way she's presenting Sam now as the ever present good friend when he wasn't really as such in the first 10 books ?! It's make me want to throw up ! It's the same guy who dated the meanad knowing she injured and poisoned Sookie ! F' a zomby !

This is my second time listening to this series (and I read it once before) and I found this is the sadest books of all of them. After everything they've been through, Eric and Sookie deserved to be happy together. The way Charlaine Harris is writing their characters here is just wrong. They should be fighting together not against each other. It's like she is ripping them to shreds of themselves... I just don't understand how an author can despise her characters so much. As a reader, I feel betrayed.
